Re: Which states can give us teacher license if I only hold a non-education bachelor degree (General)

Massachusetts. You will have to take their teacher license tests which are HARD. Most people pass the standard ones easily but the subject matter ones are killer. I honestly think this is to punish people who aren't able to get licensed in any other state because we have a subject-matter bachelor's degree and no other state still does them this way!

Virginia is a possibility but they require an offer of employment from a Virginia public school - almost impossible these days to get if you're not already licensed. Tennessee is an option, you'd have to read their rules carefully. I thought Maryland but then I saw on their website that it requires working at one of their public schools; again with the "they won't hire you if you're not already certified."

I think Utah gives something for just your bachelor's degree and it will be in the subject of your major field but it may be only a letter authorizing you to seek employment there in Utah. Not valid in any other state.

This is all thanks to the "No Child Left Behind Act." That which assumes that the quality of public education has anything to do with whether or not people with bachelor's degrees in subject matters like math and science are allowed to teach in public schools under temporary licenses while they complete a teacher education program. Most states have had to eliminate their first level teacher licenses due to that. And now are having a hell of a time finding math and science teachers!!

Massachusetts' is the only one that will transfer to any other state.
