Technology for ESL
Technology is an important subject for students to study even if they are not interested in working in a field of technology. Workplaces have typically begun to utilize technology for a variety of careers and at different levels of expertise. For instance, an intern in public relations should have a strong knowledge of how to utilize graphic design computer programs. Technology changes often so students should become familiar with computers while they are young and continue to utilize them for their studies in college.
Turn the students into filmmakers and have them create short movies. Encourage the students to shoot the movie with a camera and edit the digital footage on a school computer. You also can show the students high school film competitions for them to try to get the movies into film festivals.
Bring in disposable cameras for the students to utilize. Encourage the students to take meaningful photographs that you develop and bring back to them. You can also have the students edit the photographs on the computer application Photoshop.
Encourage the students to learn about computers. The students should be taking computer classes where they learn about Excel and PowerPoint. In addition, have the students type up their essays for writing classes.
Assign the students to engage in a class blog where they respond to posts that you make. For instance, you could post a debate topic such as music pirating and copyright laws. Have the students examine the pros and cons of the debate topic, and grade them by requiring each student to make reply to your blog post.
Utilize videos to support a topic that you are studying. As an example, you can show a clip of propaganda while studying World War II. Require the students to participate in classroom discussion about the video as well.
