Yes Spanky it is a scam, that they asked for all your personal information in the way they did tells you this. 45 dollars an hour? Not totally outside the realm of possibility, but not likely. This is an identity theft scam, I have seen it many times before. If you send them your info you will never hear from them again, but you may find later on that your name has been sued for many a nefarious deed. Avoid, and send them nothing.

Re: SCAM: Hiring tutor for student moving with father to US ($45 per hour)

Did he contact you, or did you contact him first? If he contacted you out of the blue, likely a scam. Also, he doesn't seem to know what town you live in, sure giveaway, though not mentioning it could just mean it's a given, hence it doesn't need to be mentioned. However at the end is the dead giveaway, a request for "All" of your personal information, from address to full name to phone. This is not normal for an ESL teaching job, and the hefty offer of $45 an hour is likely just a butter up to get the info. This is a common scam to get personal information for identity theft. It also reads like a Nigerian scam letter, and a chain letter, these are all signs of a scam.

It also makes no sense as this is an International board, and he is moving to a country where the main language is English. It would be easier to wait until you get there, or to go onto an "American" website where teachers and tutors advertise their services, not an international one. Use common sense and it's easy to distinguish the scams from the non scams.

Received exactly the same email, following up on an ad for a tutor. Due to the poor grammer, and the convoluted story line, we susptected a scam, and came across this post. It is definately a scam, I urge everyone to steer well clear of this.

This is just a scam, right? I mean...obviously he doesn't even name the town I live in!

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in the tutor job. My name is David Coleman. Me and my family are relocating from England to the US this month, my 12 yrs old Daughter (Christine), my only family would be coming with me to continue her studies in the state, I would like you to help her in the follows subjects; Mathematics, English (writing and essay), Science and History. She is a 5th grader, very brilliant, sharp and smart little girl. You are expected to tutor her 1hr per day, and 3 times per week, that is you are having to work with her for 3hrs total a week, the tutoring can take place in our house, your house or any nearest library (Morning or Afternoon) As we are moving to your locality but we have not reached final agreement with the landlord of the house so i would let you know on our address as time goes. My Daughter would be the first to be in the state because I have to clear all my business transactions and will join her later in this August. I got a good and responsible nanny that will take proper care of her and also to always drive her down to the location of the lesson.

I am offering $45.00 per hr, kindly let me know if ther charge is okay for you or if any let me know, So i can be able to send you the payment and book your service prior to my daughter's arrival in the state. I'll be sending you the payment inform of a check for the tutorials while I'll also pay the Nanny that will look after her in the state while i join her later on, so as soon as you get the money/funds cleared we are assured of your services & my daughter can prepare to meet with you and the nanny that would be looking after her in the state.
