Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

The Nigerian scam mafia is well-known all over the world, and they have been in operation for decades now. Considering the fact that several hundreds of stranded Nigerians in Hongkong and Malaysia (I met them myself while being there on other business) hang around there, it is not unusual that they use pretend IDs and plots relating to an Asian setting.

Just ignore them!

Hi Alan,
do you have any more info about this fraudster?
what makes you think he lives in Nigeria?
according to some other posts on other websites, it looks like his computer ID shows he lives in USA.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam -- Sri Garden

I got the offer last October 1st., I got suspicious when they endorsed me to a travelling agency, which has ridiculous prices for visa processing, certificates, etc.. I also noticed that the Hiring Manager is not using a legit domain email address "edu.my" which is typical for any organizations like schools or government offices plus the country origin. So, I sent the HRD of the school. Sri Garden School.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam -- Sri Garden

I got offered a nice-paying job in Malaysia at Sri Garden. Same scam. Contact Malaysia Traveling Agency and pay them loads of money for ticket and visa.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

Definite scam. I received the EXACT SAME LETTER from Hujin D. Lillo and was told that I'd have to pay BIG BUCKS up front to the MALAYSIA TRAVELING COMPANY (who very quickly got in touch with a price list to get the ball rolling) to secure Visa's, etc. Watch out, be wary and keep your ear to the ground.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

Like yourself, I received the same offer...completed very strange "online questionnaire" and literally within hours I received a reply from them reading that I'd got the job.......All sounded rather quick so decided to check out Dave's ESL Cafe....There are two pages commenting on these offers and it doesn't make good reading!!

I'm kinda "miffed" that I spent a good amount of time completing that form.....but glad that it's only my time that was spent!!!

Think I'll stay in Barcelona for another year!!!

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

Yeah I did. I told them I couldn't afford the fees and they said they would pay it and then take it out of my first paycheck. When I told him that doesn't make any since because he said I would be reimbursed for all the fees, he said I was asking him too may questions and to stop e mailing him and wait for he documents to come to my house.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

I also received this offer. I spoke to the Malaysian embassy in Oman today and was told to never pay money up front. That there are very professional scams coming out of Malaysia and the key is that they don't give 603 numbers (which are land lines) but 601 (which are mobiles, and can throw away the sim card.) Looks like a scam.

March 20th 2015
I have also, applied for an English teaching position and had an interview by questionnaire. Took about the same time two days
dianakondrach@outlook.com was the contact for the HIRING MANAGER Hujin D.Lillo.

I was advised I was successful and could I start April 1st 2015. The documents appeared from the email authentic so I downloaded them signed them and forwarded them by return mail to The Hiring Manager Hujin D.Lillo. I have also sent an email advising them of some changes to the commencement date there has been no reply so far.

I can only say my experience is similar to yours. maybe they require more than one ESL Teacher.

ugh, almost fell for this scam. thank you to the people who started this thread and the one on Dave's. Thanks. I think it's a scam too. And the school website I looked at doesn't look really either. The school has a Linkedin Page, I sent them a message. Still waiting for a reply.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

I contacted the recommended travel agent just to see what would happen. I received an almost immediate response from the agent, which included a table of fees for the plane ticket and visa processing amounting to over $2000. USD. The price quoted for the plane ticket was less than $500. That's $1,500. USD to process a work permit, which is ridiculous! Haven't heard back from the hiring manager Mr. Lillo. I think they have caught on to the fact that we all know it's a scam. I also heard that the ad has been removed from Dave's ESL Cafe. There's also a discussion board there with other people talking about the scam.

#22 Parent john - 2015-03-16
Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

I did notice the same. I also rwcwived the same letter today morning Stating that we need to pay for the flight tickets and that it will be reimbursed. I believe that the recruitment normally would be done initially by any recruiter bearing the flight ticket. I personally feel this as a fraudulent attempt. Please confirm it with someone who lives there. I have asked for assistance . Once if I get any information about this, I will post it.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

I also received a job offer from them this week to start first week of April. Mr. Lillo informed me that I would need to contact the Malaysiantraveligagency to arrange work permit, visa, ID card, tax ID, Malaysian Workmen Certificate and flight ticket. Total price for all the documents and flight ticket is over $2000. I think this is a scam and will not be going. Beware!

#24 Parent Ray - 2015-03-16
Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

The recommended travel agent quoted me a price of $2,000. USD to process the visa ($1,500. USD) & purchase the plane ticket ($500. USD).
Completely absurd! I worked in Korea for many years. Usually, when you receive a contract for employment you go to the embassy in your home country to process the work visa. Not more than $50. USD - If airfare is included in the contract - They send you the tickets directly by email. In any case, I haven't heard back from the hiring manager and I found another discussion group on Dave's ESL cafe, basically the same as this one - many people were offered the same job under the same circumstances. I heard the job posting has been removed.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

It is a scam Marista---do not send them any money or information. The guy probably lives in Nigeria. They will take your money--beware.

#26 Parent jay - 2015-03-16
Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

I got a e mail from a fake travel company listing ridiculous prices for ridiculous things I don't need. When I informed him that I couldn't afford to pay for all of them, he stated they would pay for everything and take it out of my first check. I thought this was odd because I was told I would be paid back all my expenses. So why would they take the money out of my first check?

So I am playing along with them just to see how far they will take it. I have already decided this is not a legit offer, but I am interested to see how far they will take it.

I received the same offer yesterday morning. It sounds like everyone who has applied was accepted.

#28 Parent Ray - 2015-03-15
Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

I was given the same job offer today! The entire process took 3 days from the time I applied. The interview consisted of pages of questions downloaded from the internet. Apologies were always made by the hiring manager a Mr. Lillo (dianakondrach@outlook.com) who stated that his English was very poor and that everything was written by a translator. Though, as anyone knows who has used a language translator program it just doesn't come out right, whereas the English used in his emails was quite good. The advertised salary is $3,700 USD / month. However, the actual contract states right at the top that $300 will be deducted monthly for tax. I though this was also strange nobody writes that. They just state that taxes, etc. will be deducted as required as a matter of fact. Mr. Lillo also sent me the contact information of the travel agent a Mr. Abdullah Khan Fahad CEO at: maylasiantravelagency@fastservice.com - I tried to find the travel agency site on Google, that's when the red flags went up! I saw scam warnigs associated with the fastservice.com address and that led me to your post. I also told Mr. Lillo that my wife would be coming with me but he made no references to her concerning visa processing or anything. He also stated that I would receive a "single shared apartment" at no cost. I don't know what a "single shared apartment" is. I mean it's either single or shared not both. Anyway, I asked for clarification. He responded immediately (This guy works 24/7) saying that it's a flat shared with another married couple with a seperate bathroom & kitchen, which doesn't really make sense. Two kitchens in one house kind of defeats the economical purpose of sharing housing. Since there is no way to actually contact the school I think the best way to proceed if one is so inclined is to say that you do not have the funds to pay for the plane tickets up front and ask that the school cover the costs. Personally, I'm out.

Hey guys, I just got the exact same offer. I had a gut feeling this was a scam, and after reading these posts I think it is. I am not letting on that I think it is a scam to the scammer. I am going to play along and see what they do. I assume they are going to ask me for money to process my visa and plane ticket. Ill keep updating....

I e-mailed Chong Hwa HS directly and asked about their recruiting process. Let's wait for the answer.
But honestly I do think it is a scam.

Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

I applied for the job using the email address: dianakondrach@outlook.com. This email address was mentioned in the job add. I got a response and I apparently got the job. The contract looks good though not professional. The job is to start in April. The school has a website though it's entirely in their native language with no option for English. This is the second time I've been required to answer an interview questionnaire for jobs in Malaysia. I turned down the first one after I was advised that international schools in Malaysia may not be as reputable as government schools. Any advice would be appreciated.

#32 Parent thuynguyen - 2015-03-14
Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

From all indications, it is a scam. Chong Hwa is a legitimate school. Even the name behind the email address appears to be legit, but stolen. I searched thru FB, and the person is a native English speaker, but hiring manager says she speaks no English and uses a translator. Note as well that the questions were all downloaded from the Internet. Besides, the offer, without going through a personal interview, is indeed too good to be true.

#33 Parent gromit - 2015-03-14
Re CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL Scam?

if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. USD3700/month yeah right.

Here from the contract I was offered:

PROCESSING PROCEDURE
CHONG HWA HIGH SCHOOL will recommend you to the traveling Agency Company who will process all
your Malaysian working documents and flight ticket, according to School management and Malaysian
Immigration office. No any other alternative for processing your documents will be welcome.

So now you should know the next steps. They will ask you to cover those initial expenses. Their phone number also does not work. Try it.
