Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

Yes I agree. These people come to Middle East and start working at 1/3 the pay not because they would love to but because they are desperate. In desperation they are willing to sacrifice their hard earned talent and skills to make both ends meet. But on the other hand, they are ruining chances for the really talented ones who are offering their services for a price. I wish they would not do that. ;) I am an English teacher in Pakistan and would be willing to relocate and work in Oman but not at 1/3 or even half the pay. My skills and talent are available but for those who really deserve tlo gain and acquire knowledge in English.
If you wish to contact me, please email at sardar890@gmail.com
Best regards.

No idea if he was a recruiter or the in charge of the school. He told me he was the in charge of that school and not a recruiter. I guess you are right he must have been tired of my questions regarding to each and every petty detail so he must have thought to hire someone else.

Seems he may have found someone else, or got tired of all the questions, and concerns on your part. Recruiters are above all else pretty lazy people, and they see foreigners as a means to an end. To him you are just walking talking cash. You'd think you'd be treated better, that being the case. Sadly it is not.

Anyhow, they have little patience for questions, and if you ask what they consider "too many" they will just stop talking with you, which is just fine I say.

If you are traveling 10,000 miles to some unknown dust bowl to teach, I personally think tons of question are in order, and appropriate. If anyone has a problem with this, don't deal with them, working for someone like that would be a nightmare. Oh and don't ever work for a recruiter, believe I said that before, but you can't say it enough.

Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

Actually, when i posted this scam or whatever here i was receiving calls and e mails from that person and i was really confused as i didn't want to loose an opportunity (if it was there) and also was very reluctant to take the decision to go (because of obvious loop holes i could see).

Now, as i mentioned i did not go so it means i did not travel. I was supposed to join the school on 18th September. My husband and I collectively decided not to take such a risky step. A more weird thing was, that that person did not call up again after 10th to even ask about our travel and as he had said that I had to get my documents from our education department, whether i had done that or not. Being courteous, my husband did send a message on his cell and asked him to call so that we can refuse him in some appropriate way. But, he never showed up again.

Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

You said you "were" reluctant to go, does this mean you no longer are, or are already there? That's what your grammar and word usage points to anyhow. If you have not gone, don't go, and do be reluctant. If they were really going to give your hubby a job I think they would have offered right away. They sound no different than the liars and scam artists in China, who will tell you anything to get you to go there. If I were you I certainly would not go, they can promise anything, but I am pretty sure circumstance will have changed as soon as you set foot on their countries soil. By then you'll have already committed, and they know the odds of you turning around and going home a low. All they need do is give you same half baked excuse about how something happened, or there is no longer a job. What will you do then, pay to go right back home after spending so much money to get there. If you do, so what, it costs them nothing, but costs you a fortune. I would advise you in no way to go there, you are trying to convince yourself it will be OK, because of assurances they are now giving you, but it almost surely will not. I hope I am wrong, but you'd be best off to be safe, not sorry.

Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

I DIDN'T GO. Even my husband talked to that person in a rough voice that he wont let me travel alone at any cost, so that person calling did even agree that he will let him have some job as well in his school, but of course just reading about oman's repute i was sure reluctant to go. I am a muslim too but yes i do not trust muslims at all. Better to trust a christian or jew but NEVER trust a muslim.

Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

Firstly, it makes no sense for them to want you to come without your husband, unless they plan on taking advantage of you. Lone women working as English teachers are easy prey. No doubt they don't want your hubby along. You would do well to check with the visa bureau for that country to see if what they are telling you is true. I find it strange they say you can not get a dependent visa, check with this countries consulate and visa office for yourself.

No, they have not asked any money from you, that doesn't mean they will not. A real job that is decent will not give you this much confusion and doubt. That is your instincts trying to tell you that you should not take this job. You however are desperate, and they know this, you are easy prey. They may be waiting until you have committed yourself more, perhaps you did not think of that. You get a visa, a plane ticket, and then out of the blue they inform you have some fee for a visa, or something else that sounds legit. Maybe they will say "Oh it is standard procedure, and we did not think to mention it", or something like that. Once you are more committed, you will be much more likely to shell over money. Even if they do not ask for money, so what. You get there, they change to agreement, what can you do? You are a female alone in a "Muslim" country, good luck getting any satisfaction. You're alone and without your hubby, as they like it.

No, I would not go there at all. Every time I have ignored my gut I get screwed, when I listen, I do not. You need to listen to your gut now, because I am not you and even I am concerned and see tons of waring signs. I can almost certainly, guarantee you based upon 10 plus years experience teaching abroad that you will end up getting screwed in some way if you take this job. Do not do it.

Go to this boards international jobs section and search for jobs in "Japan". From everything I have seen, heard, and more importantly not heard, that is one of the best places to teach ESL at the moment. it is a country of stern laws, where foreign teachers have rights, and you have plenty of recourse. Also, there you don't have the gray areas that you do in places like China, or the place you are thinking about going.

If you have a degree, getting decent work in Japan, or in another country with a good reputation for education is not hard. The Japanese are English crazy as well, and they pay decently. Do not go to the middle east, at least not in this case.

Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

If you have already made up your mind why come here and ask us for our advice? nothing fake has nothing to do with it. You will be without your husband, and just because the school has a good rep with the locals, doesn't mean it has a good rep with teachers. I don't see how a school actually existing means it is a good place to work. You wanted to find out if the school was real, that's it? In China people are ripped off constantly by real schools, it is very common.

I think going there will be a major mistake, because, screwed or not, you will not be able to have your husband with you, and you really have no idea if they school will be honorable in it's dealings with you. I saw some real warning signs, and even if the school itself is legit, you've no idea if you will be happy. They made a loose offer to find your husband work "later" on. This does not seem genuine to me. Why not find him work now? Does your hubby even have an advanced degree that would allow them to find him anything? I've never heard of a school offering to find someones spouse work somewhere else so that spouse could travel there with you, not ever. That alone makes me suspicious, as it has a too good to be true, too benevolent feel to it.

You did a poor job describing everything that was said to you, and the situation in general, hence it is impossible now that you have contradicted yourself and are now endorsing the school as legit, to know what is really going on.

Please people, if you are going to come here and ask fro advice, or report a possible scam, provide every detail of conversations, as well as contracts you may have gotten, otherwise we might have to come to our own conclusions based upon what you give us, and those conclusions might end up being wrong.

Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

Hi there. Just so you know... In Oman it is not possible for a woman to get a dependent visa for her husband. And with difficulty, she can get one for a child if she is not married. I know it's weird, but it's the way it is. I am currently teaching in Oman. I am aware of this school you mentioned and they seem legit, just not professional. And why on earth would you want to work for 1/3 the salary that foreign teachers are paid? I would like to suggest that you do some more research before you decide to make this change. :) Good luck with your plans.

Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

Its not a scam. I went to the Oman embassy and the person incharge confirmed me that this school exists. The person calling me is Yahya Farsi the incharge of the school. Its a good school working since 1994. They dont have any website because its not an omani culture people dont usually make websites there unless they have a big business running. The person confirmed me that he has personally met Yahya and he knows him well. His relatives children study there in that school. So he being the representative of oman said that i should go for it, there is nothing fake in it.

Re: Teaching job Sultanate of Oman, Sohar mobile 00968 99222225 00968 26753696 yalfarsi@hotmail.com

Please some one or the admin of this website answer me urgent. It am the same person who received this agreement. Don't know its a scam or what. I received a call from them. A person talking in arabic accent with poor english. He asked me to send my documents scanned copy to him as well as to the embassy of oman in my country, of course signing in the contract. I will definitely check it from the embassy as well. But what do i do now. He didnt ask for money or anything. He said i have to pay for my visa and ticket myself. If i am some financial problem they will arrange a ticket for me which will be later deducted from my salary. They are not offering any dependent visa to my husband either. They are saying you come 1st and later on we will look for a job for your hubby and he can join u later while he can pay u a visit of course.

I am very very confused. The agreement sounds weird. But on the other hand he is not asking for any money himself. I am a female belonging to a typical eastern society. Yes, I am reluctant to travel alone. Please if its possible to check out the authenticity of this mail or the school mentioned. Some one help me out. Its my 1st ever time to apply for such job and hearing of so much going on around i am hesitant to take a risk.
