This is clearly our old repulsive con gruttock Dr Che Cheung who apparently has changed his name (not infrequent amongst Chinese folk) and has now moved from the midlands to Plymouth yet is coming out with the same identity theft spiel. I would love to get my hands on slimy little spivs such as this one.

Are you sure that the real name is "Dr Che Cheung" ans that the person hiding behind that name is Chinese? It may be one of the Nigerian scammers who is just pretending that national. The other thing is that way the last name is written is not the normal Chinese names would transcribe in Latin letters. The "eu" in "Cheung" may even point to short o written existant in Korean Hangul where this letter would be normally transcribed as "eu" in Romanized form. And "Che" is neither a normal Chinese family or a first name.

I have my real doubts that we are dealing with a real Chinese name and even with a person being Chinese hiding behind that name. It may be a stolen identity from someone who is not even aware that there some nasty people making such an abuse of his otherwise "good" name!

I received a similar letter yesterday.

This one doesn't take much common sense to see through, money was asked for. However let's think about the logic. Guy living in country where English is the main language wants to bring in outside teacher when he is in a country full of English speakers. His wife must speak some English or they would not have gotten married.That being the case I know I sure would not spend 3,000 clams to hire someone when I could just help her myself. Honestly, how dumb do these people think we are, or is that a trick question? I guess some people must fall for it, or they would not do it.

This is the email I received 2 weeks ago and immediately responded.. Everything seemed ok until a certain Barrister (whom my employer refer to as an immigrant agent asssiting us in the processing) asked me to deposit 650pounds as Evidence of Sufficient Fund through WESTERN UNION! Obvious scam! I'm glad I saw this thread.

My family was almost taken by this scam. The name of the "German" man offering the ESL position was Mr. Jurgen Distel in our case. His legal helper was called Barrister Dunn Rennicks Esq. in our case. We sent money by Western Union to show "Evidence of Expatriates' Sufficient Fund Deposit" ("meant to ensure that you have enough cash to cater for your self upon your arrival to the United Kingdom till you get paid your first month salary"). We canceled the Western Union. You can do the same if you are in the same position as we were. The flight confirmation they sent looked like it came from Continental Airlines, but when we called about it, I was not on the flight. The request for visa information came with a passport picture of Mr. Rennicks to "prove his identity." (He was supposed to be with the UK Border Agency.) Also the visa application he wanted us to fax him asked information about my current salary at my present job. He also wanted a scanned receipt of the Western Union transaction. Our theory: They use the visa information to fabricate enough identification to obtain the Western Union funds sent to the UK. (Not sure.)

It stinks to be fooled like this. If you find yourself in this position, my sympathy goes out to you. Rescue yourself as quickly as possible. May God bless you.

TO ANYONE SEEKING RETRIBUTION OR INFORMATION REGARDING THE RAMPANT NIGERIAN SCAMS GOING ON AT THE MOMENT:

This is in response to the HERBERT DISTEL/HAMMOND SCAM- MERCEDEZ-$5,000 per mo in UK"
Someone suggested that someone ought to string the scammers along somehow.
And I did.
I got the scammers to call me many times. I strung them along as long as I could.
They told me to send a thousand pounds via Western Union in order to get my visa. After telling them that the Westen Union in my City was out of service, they suggested MoneyGram. But I told them I had already FEDEXed a cashiers check along with all docs to their address at Mercedez Benz UK. They immediately responded, quite agrily and told me to cancel the "FedEx". Of course I sent them nothing. But this bought me more time getting them to call me several more times. Then the scammers insisted that I send them a moneygram.I was able to go back and forth with e-mails and more of their calls. I told them that I didnt think that a 3 week paid vacation was not enough. I needed 3 weeks on top of that(6weeks). They responded immediately with, "REQUEST OF 6 WEEKS GRANTED". But they were getting very frustrated over the phone and in their e-mails.
Finally, after sending them a bogus moneygram receipt, the scammers(Mr. Distel and Hammond who are most likely the same person hiding in some underground boiler room operation)told me that they needed the "test question and answer" which they said was located at the bottom of the moneygram receipts.
So, finally, after several weeks of stringing them along to a point where I'm sure theyd feel the sting, I sent them an e-mail of what they were waiting for;

I DO HOPE NO ONE HAS SENT THEM ANY MONEY. BUT I"M SURE THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT GOT SWINDLED BY THESE NIMICRAWLS.
I KNEW THEY WERE NIGERIANS BY THEIR ACCENTS. THEY DIDNT EVEN TRY TO FAKE IT. I GUESS BECAUSE IT'S JUST A NUMBERS GAME TO THEM AND EVENTUALLY THEY DO GET A GULLIBLE PERSON HERE AND THERE.

HOPE IT HELPS ALL CONCERNED.

Motivated and awakened by being the possible dupe in this "Nigerian" scam, I searched for an authority to which I could report, especially in UK. I discovered the authorities in UK had no interest to investigate Internet scams. After receiving the third phone call from "Mr. Herbert Distel", I simply told him that his name is on Google. He immediately hung up.
I also discovered many corruption problems within and out of Nigeria.
The best relief I could find was, "Be aware of scams, especially ones that claim to make you rich". The old axiom, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is not true".
Game over.

I was hit with an identical email today and googled all over to see if it was a scam. I didn't get any hits because the name was different on mine. I thought it was suspicious because the from email address and the address actually mailed from were different. It looks like the address actually mailed from was out of India. Beware! I did contact them back and ask about insurance and to see a contract. They simply said insurance was provided and to send my information quickly. It was a fast response too, within an hour. It was a little early in the morning I believe over in England to respond that fast.
