Heilongjiang International University is a scam and a joke. I worked here back when it was Star College of Harbin Normal University. Below is a list of many flaws:
1. Unannounced observations that quickly turn into threats of termination.
2. Teachers being coerced into signing new rules that override their original contract.
3. Students having a ridiculous amount of power and being able to get teachers moved or fired.
4. Teachers are made to pay for their own visas and associated expenses. The reasoning of this is that the school had "trouble with foreign teachers before", which is a paltry excuse. If you want to stop teachers doing runners, then treat them well and don't give them a reason to in the first place.
5. Contractual breaches by the management on various levels yet if teachers break the contract they get penalised according to the letter of the law, which demonstrates double standards.
6. If teachers are disciplined, fined or warned, it is done publicly during staff meetings.
The bottom line is, DO NOT work for this "university".
