Just came across this posting today and felt I had to reply as a former teacher at STS. Obviously the attitude adjuster has not spent much time in the educational/instruction world. I am a professionally licensed teacher from the U.S. who spent a year teaching at Sunflower and found my time there exciting, my coworkers from all parts of the globe fun to be with, and my supervisors very professional. In fact, I was sad to leave but a serious illness in the family required my return to the states or I might still be there.
To the disgruntled person, and anyone else thinking of teaching at this or any other school, please stop thinking of this as just a job. Teaching is a career that requires a lot of forethought and preparation. And schools that are adding new certifications will need extra contributions from the teaching staff to accomplish the requirements. Teachers who quit after only a day or two (I've seen this in the U.S. too) wake up quickly to the reality of the job and run. Good. Only the dedicated teachers need to stick around. I know Brad and Sara to be highly dedicated teachers who have been giving their all for several years to see Sunflower grow and during my tenure there I found them both to be extremely helpful.
And my accommodations while a Sunflower teacher were totally in keeping with what I needed and wanted. The short walk to the classroom meant I was fresh and ready to start my day without any commuting hassles. My room was clean and bright and I felt safe staying on the campus. Frankly, it seems that Sunflower is better off without this person and perhaps this person is better off looking for a job outside the education community.
