No, no. I realise that. And it is exactly my problem with you. Teaching should not be about doing the bare minimum for an easy life. It should be about working hard to provide the best education you possibly can for your students.
GW talk. When countries live up to their own standards, then yes. But in China laziness and mediocrity in education in the public sector IS acceptable, as the americans say, it is what it is. Of course I would not be able to get away with that when teaching in the middle east, but I think I already mentioned that. China is a good place to take a rest, and have a nice easy teaching job, while eating and drinking cheaply. No question, and if me, silverboy or any other western male chooses to enjoy that, why does it irk you so much? Turnoi has also explained how the public places operate, but you choose not to listen.

What they do in their free time is up to them, no question. But when they admit to doing the bare minimum for their classes because what they do in their free time is their reason for teaching in the first place, then it is a problem for me.
A problem for you? What are you a UN ambassador or something? Just mind your own business, why do you care so much what people you have never even met DO?! the mind boggles...

I worked with a teacher who once turned up to work in the same clothes he had left the school in the night before, reeking of booze having gone directly to a brothel after finishing his class and staying there all night.
Well yes, that is unprofessional, but only at a crappy corporate TC. In a public job, I have smelt baijiu on chinese male teachers breath, they smell of BO (through not using anti perspirant/deodorant and decent shower gel), and generally wear clothes that don't get washed too much or very well, fabric conditioner seems to be a new concept. As long as this teachers clothes did not smell, I do not see a problem, if he was too drunk to teach then I suppose that is a problem, but he could have used mints to mask his breath or gone home and showered first. You mention the brothel part specifically, I feel it is that which angers you the most. An even older profession than teaching by the way.
I don't think he deserved to be fired, it just seems you enjoyed the power you had and liked to wield it, especially over a western man.

The same cannot be said for the types of men who use teaching as a means of funding their extended sex tours of China.
Now we get to the crux of the matter...I suppose you would still grumble even in Thailand. If western men want to bonk asian prostitutes why do you care so much? In Shenzhen it is well known that there are girlie streets, and western men and chinese men alike go there.
As for the students deserving "my best", they deserve to do as they are told, but then I am from a valedictorian era of teaching. Children should be seen and not heard.
