lol, he does not really post on here that much, not compared to me anyway.

You see, people like Mr O'Shei and myself have more time on our hands because we worked hard and saved our money.
I don't need to work in the crappy world of ESL to survive, I don't even need to work part-time these days.

Who is the loser?

You "run a corporation" but teach as a hobby. And I just saw some flying pigs.

Sounds like pretend Western feminist bullshit to me.

"If it quacks like a duck, if it smells like a duck, it's a fucking duck".

I've never had a Starbucks latte. But thanks again for the tip. Not sure why you are judging me when you are the one spending hours writing diatribes that no one bothers to read. I got to the 3rd sentence and got bored. Been in business for 12 years. WTF do you do? Have a major in being a loser jackass? :D

So you've got around to registering a company, but really you spend all your time drinking lattes in Starbucks and writing random shit on a blog? You go, girl!

I run a Corporation actually. Teaching is a hobby. So is writing novels and putting jerks like you in them.
But I wish I could cut hair. Very respectable profession.

Why the hell would I work for shitty online school like that, when setting up your own operation isn't exactly the hardest thing in the world to do?

Hell, if you don't get too ambitious and limit your scale to a few students that you know via conventional private tutoring methods; you have the convenience of not having to meet up in coffee shops, not have them visit your apartment, not worry about a boss penalising you because of tech-issues beyond your control.

But remember, when you say:

So, if you've never worked for them 'Mr.Know-it-all" why
don't you butt out and mind your own damn business.

One could easily get the impression after hearing you talk like that, that you've done nothing more worthwhile in your life than be an English teacher. Still, it was a slight upgrade from being a hairdresser wasn't it?

Re Mentorphone

Actually, you are completely incorrect. It's a very good company. Often teachers don't show up for their classes. Can't handle the time management that's required. And leave the company in the lurch.

I've worked for several companies from around the World. Mentorphone is one of the best I've worked for yet, actually. So, if you've never worked for them 'Mr.Know-it-all" why don't you butt out and mind your own damn business.

Re Mentorphone

You're obviously somebody working for a dodgy school. Poor work quality does not justify poor treatment; especially when contracts and laws get broken. Even the shittiest of teachers are entitled to these most basic of rights, anywhere in the world. If your employees aren't performing, you can try to motivate or train them, follow legitimate disciplinary procedures or even dismiss them, but deliberately treating them like shit is very risky; even in less developed nations where the concept of unfair dismissal doesn't quite exist.

From what I can see the problem would in that case, lie not with the individual teacher but with the HR staff. They probably failed to hire to suit their organisation's needs, failed to make the organisations expectations clear to the staff and failed to provide adequate training and support when it was needed.

Regardless of Brigitte's teaching ability which could be either good or bad (how the hell could I know without seeing her teach?), the simple fact remains that the employee was left feeling unsatisfied, they've failed to retain staff, they will have to spend more time and money recruiting staff to replace her and it has negatively affected the reputation of the organisation.

So it now seems that online schools, just like Chinese training schools are being run by people who just haven't got a clue...

3 days? Wow. You can really provide insight after 3 days. Let me guess...you are a bad teacher and the company is probably happy you quit. Let me also guess...you have very little teaching experience.

I worked for them for just over a month. On more than one occasion I was asked to outright lie to my students about things to try and keep them coming back. When I had a tooth chip which resulted in the loss of a filling and eventually an infection so bad that I could not speak, I received absolutely no compassion. All they were concerned about was getting paid by the students.

Sometimes my reports would take hours, uncompensated time. When I complained about the unpaid time and the unpaid training, I was told no other teachers had complained - obviously not true.

The compensation for the one month I did work for them - up to 10 students each shift- is due to be deposited in my account today. All of my efforts to contact them have gone unanswered. Don't think I'll be seeing any of that money. Am over the people I worked for, but I wish I could tell my students what was really going on. I believe they could easily spend that much money and get much more useful instruction. Overall I believe they are wasting their money.

Only a fool would work for such useless idiots. And that sort of teaching model IS just a scam.

And what a stupid name, the name alone is a big red flag.

It's an option for bored retirees with nothing much to do to make some extra money while assisting non-native speakers of English improve their spoken English.

The name isn't among the dumbest I've come across for a private language school.

This is what Brigitte says about them, Charlotte. I don't know but it does sound like they employ many teachers , second language English teachers. No self respecting natural English speaker would put up with little ten minute lessons and do lesson evaluations which take as long as the lesson. Pop them in the bin quickish like.

Re Mentorphone
I worked for them for about 3 days. The training isn't paid, I knew that. It's not a scam but you basically have to have a certain amount of hours, like morning or evening, open but you have all these little 10minute lessons. By the end of your shift you've worked about an hour, since its paid by the lesson only. And, the kicker is, you have to do these ridiculous lesson evaluations. They're long and take longer to do than the lesson itself. And you don't get paid for it.
Don't waste your time.

Hi Emily!

Yes, I currently work for Mentorphone, an online ESL school based in Korea. It's a perfectly legitimate school and your working hours (part-time/full-time) depend on your availability and preferences. The training is not paid but the salary is on-market for most online ESL teaching jobs. For more information, visit www.mentorphone.com. They are always looking for new teachers!

Hope this helps!

I just started working for them. The training was excellent, don't get me wrong. It provided a lot of useful tips. But the lessons are sporadic and they stress being on time. The format in which to submit feed back is long and they put a lot of pressure on the instructors to make the student happy above all else. I will continue working with them for now, as it is relatively convenient, but I wish they provided better hours to accommodate the time zones.

Yes, I work for them. They are not a scam. I have a full schedule and they pay every month on time. They are actually great to work for, with a big HR support team and Tech Team in place around the clock.

Hi Emily,
I was wondering, have you started to work with them? I'm in the process of going through the application. I'm also hesitant on whether it is a scam or not since they require your sin and banking information.

Hey,

Has anyone worked for the online group "mentorphone"? I'm trying to figure out if it's not a scam? How many hours did/do you get? Did you get paid for training?

Thanks!
