An estate agent, whatever they call themselves in China, has said I will need to get my passport legalised in order to appear on the deeds. Slightly academic at the moment because the PSB has still got my passport until 25th. It does sound to me like the estate agent is making up things. He's quite happy to not have my name on the deeds. A legalised passport sounds a strange beast to me.
