CZZ teacher - 2016-02-19
In response to Re: CZZChina - Zhengzhou, Henan (Jessica)

To all who are googling CZZ China, you are already slightly more adapt at finding a teaching job than most of the teachers they find. I once heard jokingly from a history major buff that, in ancient times, people would walk into seaside bars, find passed out drunks, and sell them to a slaving ship to later wake up with the hungover surprise that they are now rowing oars for the rest of their life. This may as well be CZZ's business model for finding teachers. They don't care about qualifications. They will make them for you. I have seen them using MS paint multiple times in their office. They prey on the uninformed and those who don't think they can find a job alone. Their name is notorious in Zhengzhou for being the worst. They have been reported to the US embassy multiple times, including once by me.

I finished my contract with them and will never, I repeat, never work for an agency again. It is foolish. This company promises you a salary and housing, when in reality all schools in Zhengzhou already provide that. They simply connect you with a school then proceed to take 30% or more of your salary every month. My friend made 6,000 a month out of a salary of 15,000. Why? Because you were dumb enough to sign a contract and don't know the language or the laws. Download wechat, find people on facebook in the city, connect yourself that way. So many expats have been taken advantage of by agencies like this that we band together to help people out. Seriously, we have massive wechat groups dedicated to exchanging job opportunities outside of the general darker side of Chinese agents. If I didn't want to remain anonymous, I would give you contacts for jobs right now, ranging from 8000rmb to 13000 rmb a month THAT ARE COMPLETELY LEGAL. And I would do this for free as a service to humanity.

When working with CZZ (or other agents with this business model) there will be two contracts.

The first will supposedly bind you to them. There will even be a clause that dictates that you can't work part-time outside the agency. You want to work a gig that is one hour long for 1000RMB? Too bad, you only get 100 of that if it goes through the agency because your salary cap is 100/hr. They will attempt to hold on to your foreign expert certificate to control you. This document, in China, is just as important as your passport when it comes to switching jobs. They will claim that your visa is linked to them, which will be a lie. The reason they withhold this information is because in reality you can switch jobs at any time in China as long as you have three things: a recommendation letter from the school to which your visa is tied, a copy of the expert certificate, and a Z-visa.

The second contract is between CZZ and the school. You will never see this and will have no idea what information is on it. Mainly, it will negotiate your indentured servitude to the agency and ensure that your salary is split with the agency every month. My favorite clause is that, even after you finish your contract, you can't work for that school directly. If you love your job, you can't work there WITHOUT the agency taking their cut for some amount of years. Admittedly, most schools HATE agencies and only use them as a last resort to find teachers and may be willing to break this clause.

These are the structural problems with a CZZ employment. They use a parasitic business model that targets teachers who are unsure about going to a new country. I was swindled on skype, and it cost me 30,000-40,000 RMB over a year of work (around 3,000 a month). Don't make my mistakes.

My personal altercations with the company go much deeper than their business model. Late payments, terrible apartments, never getting reimbursements, missing part-time work pay, withholding vital documents, not getting my full flight bonus, etc.

I know all of the people in the pictures on their website. None of the people you see are there anymore. 100% fled to other jobs. The website is a pretty wrapping on a package of turd.

Ask your CZZ contact these questions and you will begin to feel uncomfortable:
"How do you make money?" (This is my favorite one to ask agencies)
"Can I talk to the school in person, directly, before I sign a contract with you?" (Then go to China, meet the school, and ignore CZZ)
"Who will control my Visa and can I have possession of the ORIGINAL version of all documents?"
"Can I speak to the teacher who has worked the longest with you" (I doubt you will find someone who has worked more than two years)

Don't do this to yourself. No CZZ, please.

If you really want an agent, use people who do it part-time and take a one time fee for connecting you with a school. My friend got a better job then me as an unqualified non-native speaker using an agent who charged 5000RMB off the first pay check then was finished.
