Yes, we used to know a retired teacher friend in Nanning and unfortunately he was a very pleasant gentle older American man so he was just used and scammed and on last visit he'd (so we heard) gone to the Phillipines.

He agreed to do some part-time teaching but was gamed and they scammed him on housing (Nanning now full of horror stories on rental/landlord scams).

A couple of the old European guys we once knew were still here but of course its different for them. They aren't trying to work or earn money here so in a sense they don't care or at least until the construction gets outside their homes or they stray outside the friendlier retiree neighbourhoods.

You know its a funny thing but even the religious evangelical types get gamed, used and played by savvy schools and training centers. I heard of one case where the sneaky training school 'allowed them' to put on some religious praise and sermon thing. Of course the missionaries were delighted to put on big show for free of course (and hand out bibles whatever) but the training center was secretly charging the attendees something like 50 rmb per person to see the show!!

Holy shit Nanning is just full of the scammers. In a way it fascinates me because even sneaky people I know in the West wouldnt actually be able to think up these scams. Even they'd be amazed how fucking sneaky the cheaters are here.

Well i mean in China of course they (the scammersm, cheaters) believe it makes them 'clever' and 'winners' I suppose in their degenerate culture.
