Re: Shanghai United International School

A new boss in town at SuIS - firing left and right - very impersonal, very judgemental, very unfriendly: 4th Principal in 5 years - elevate The Standards and destroy souls at the same time. Avoid this school at all costs - WanYuan - it's hell...

A western teacher was fired or "let go" because he was having affairs with students at SUIS Gubei.

Re: Shanghai United International School

Having worked internationally for over 10 years (from US), this is definetly the worst school I've worked at. HR and admin are a nightmare. Morale among Western staff is terrible: admin is clueless about how to motivate int'l teachers. Hr told us there were no benefits where the school clearly has and employee benefits policy-school is super greedy and as an employee you have to fight for everything. I was hired for a particular position-they told me next year I wouldn't be teaching that subject, I'd be teaching a different subject. School is a nightmare-not a good learning environment. Serious hostility between Eastern and Western staff. Their motto is, "Where East Meets West," and that is in the boxing arena. Ironically, or not, I've never been introduced to most of the Eastern staff, and most blatantly avoid Western staff (others are nice).

I know a FT who takes a microwave, flour and eggs into class and teaches them how to cook

And he still gets jobs, what a joke.

This excuse for a foreign language teacher would not last 5 minutes in the gulf, and would be fired on day one.

Re: Shanghai United International School

I am just in shambles. I was verbally offered a job by SUIS only to get complete silence from them. They said they will send me a contract and never heard from them again. It just makes me think what in the world happen. Frankly, I would rather have someone tell me that the offer has been rescinded than to keep utter silence. What kind of operation is this anyway?

I shouldn't take it to heart, all Chinese employers will just block you if there is no longer anything in it for them, including universities. Silverboy is spot on though, get yourself a university gig. Twelve hours a week, a flat,no teaching if you are clever, just play them Mr Bean. I know a FT who takes a microwave, flour and eggs into class and teaches them how to cook. He lures the Uni girls back to his flat under the promise of tasty pies but that would not suit you.
