You should absolutely work legally Dr. T[edited]; I only said you should use a tourist/business visa in special circumstances where it will be to your advantage for your safety such as coming to China and checking out your employer before getting a Z visa which requires you to stay at the school for better or worse. Before getting married to a school, you should at least visit it or at very least, makes very sure you want to work there .
