Are you certain about this? Truly certain... or... does a chameleon change its color when it feels threatened? I'll pipe in later, but as a current parent and having had to intervene on several matters (discipline and nepotism and methods of this that and the other) I will refrain for the time being. Leave it be said that when I have intervened as a parent shite stopped and remedies were engaged by either Jamie or Alison (whose husband now magically has a job there). 99% of these posts outweigh your one post. I smell a troll or a shill. At least have the balls to confront me. I am John Kepler. JJ's father. I have to be pushed a lot before I fight back. Yes... there are problems at this school I suspected even before stumbling upon this thread... but do you know why I stumbled upon this thread? I'll tell you why... because I suspected something was not all that right and used my brain and did a Google search.

If the subjects of this thread are clean, then they have nothing to get angry about and nothing to begrudge me about. I am a stockholder (tuition paying Dad) and I pay their wages and also pay Eric's loan fees. I want the truth. So we'll see how this plays out. At the end of the day, it is home schooling and extra activities for social skills. Tuition is getting too damned stupid anyways. Corporations don't care about degrees... it's FBI (Friends. brothers and in-laws) or just drones with cookie cutter diplomas and all that rot.

This thread has really opened my eyes only to the extent that the posters justify what I have heretofore instinctively and intuitively suspected.

Hey Alf and Mac... you guys are what makes TPIS great for my boy. Your bionic hard work and efforts and staying in there even when you are ignored and overworked has earned my respect.

John Kepler (JJ's Daddy) inboxkepler@gmail.com My son is what he is today not because of TPIS but because of a loving father.

We'll see how this plays out.

Indeed, I agree. I think Mr. S is doing an absolutely marvelous job! Anyone that says anything to the contrary, is just a case of sour grapes. There is a steady hand on the helm of HMS Tara, and we foresee blue skies and calm seas! Mr. S is finally getting the appreciation, and recognition that he so richly deserves. His hard work and steely determination, has finally paid off. The school is flourishing, and the parents, staff and most importantly our children, are all doing splendidly! All thanks to Mr. S and his wonderful team of teachers and staff. Long may it continue - bravo!

Yeah, MIS is a decent school, that is making a good go of it. The teachers, parents and students are all pretty happy at that school, which as you know, is always a good indicator of how things are going at any school. I'd recommend it no problem. Why don't you go and check it out, and see for yourself? Regents, Rugby and St Andrews are far, far too expensive to consider, if you are paying for it yourself, and not getting your child's tuition paid for by your company. Good luck!

Re Tara Pattana International School Pattaya

From what I know of other schools in the area, it appears that the class sizes are too small at that school. Kids aren't challenged enough in small classes. The parents might think that their child is wonderful, if they are always scoring highly in a small class, but in actual fact it's hardly indicative of the real world. They aren't getting the chance to mix in a greater social setting. Larger class sizes provide the children with a greater range of partners, to do more effective pair and group work. It also gives them a chance to expand on their ideas, by cross referencing thoughts, and engaging in critical thinking practices with their peers.

Also, for what it is, it's far too expensive. It's an unknown quantity, and it's totally unproven in terms of test (GCSE and A level) results, and really that's what it boils down to at the end of the day. Why would a paying parent take the chance, when they can get the real thing with a proven school up the road for the same price? Or, even a lot less, at that school MIS that was mentioned. Perhaps if the owners weren’t so greedy, and were more realistic with their fees, things might change.

#20 Parent Bromsgrove Whistleblower - 2018-03-29
Re Tara Pattana International School Pattaya

Below is a post that someone made about the state of affairs at BG.

Shocking turnover of staff. The school turned away from the support offered by its Bromsgrove host school in the UK and its excellent Headmasters who brought a quality to the school and employed a couple of con artists who turned it into a back packer school. Most teachers unqualified by Thai Teaching Council standards. All the good teachers left as did most of the kids. Shame it was making a good go of it by and was growing in size and reputation. It's reputation now lays in taters. Owners have realised their mistake and are slowly getting rid of them starting with the Deputy Head and then the Head.

This was copied directly from another website titled: Worst International Schools In Thailand

It's there for all to see. This was before Swan was pushed out of his job at BG. It Looks like the owner down there in Pattaya, bought into all of his BS and smarminess.

This man is tainted goods, as is evidenced by his record of poor performance. A mere lackey, that has no place in ANY discerning educational establishment.

#21 Parent No thank you Mr. Swan. - 2018-03-29
Re Tara Pattana International School Pattaya

I was a parent at this school, until we took our child out. My wife always said that there was something amiss about that man. She could never quite put her finger on it. Other posters have labelled him as 'slippy' and 'oily', which I would agree with. In fact, I would go as far to say that he is also a racist and a bully. We distinctly remember him bleating on, that there would be 300 students within a year at the school.

Funnily enough, just this weekend we were just talking with a friend of ours, who still has a child/children at the school. We talked about how, it has been over two years since Swan has been running the school, and guess what - the numbers are still the same. This is not a new school anymore, and it has been open a considerable time. MIS has been open the same amount of time, and they are packed with kids. How can Swan not get it right? We remember him being hailed as the 'best thing ever' and somewhat of an 'expert'. Well, we didn't see any great displays of expertise whilst we were at the school. We saw teachers walking out and empty class-rooms.

Rumours abound too, that his lessons were dull, boring and uninspiring. And now we've read that he isn't properly qualified to teach in the UK, and he doesn't have a headships qualification? Is that correct? How could that come to pass? We believe he has tainted the school irreparably in the local community’s eyes. He has had plen-ty of time to work his 'magic' or achieve whatever the hell he promised to do, and, as far as we can see, he has failed. Failed spectacularly on all counts.

It is only fitting and right that he is getting some heat for his actions. My wife and I were appalled when we learned that he sacked a pregnant Filipino teacher. We knew that teacher well, and she was a lovely lady who was extremely hardworking. What a deplorable thing to do. The past head teacher would never ever have condoned or sanctioned such actions. Who would? The charade can only go on so long, before Eric's patience and money wear out. Our best guess is that Eric will sell the place off to one of the bigger schools in the area. Because if we are honest, neither Eric or James Swan have the faintest idea what they are doing.

Greetings to one and all! Parents and teachers whom all find themselfs effected by serpent Swan. I find myself at this time off the year saying do you remember what you heard on Guy Forks night some years ago when serpent Swan was in his first year of headship at TPIS? Shall I elighten you all? Ok you say. Please do Diyos.

Well, we Filipino teachers were assigned the duties to create the school plays and celebrative festivals. We tried our best but to Swan it was something terrible. Three Filipinos heard him say 'next year no festival or celebration will be designed ay a Filipino again.' WHY??? I think WHY?? You know why? Because he felt we ashamed the school. Ok, lets say something about my Filipino brothers sisters. Our accomodation by Swan and Eric was school apartments. No air condition. No facility. Next to the street. Awful. Swan has a free big house fit for the King. Now he looks down upon us.

Swan is a thoroughly unpleasant person with few redeeming qualities. He lacks experience vision and skill and should NEVER have been allowed anywhere near schools as he really knows so little about education, staff management etc and has no vision, depth and few human qualities. But dont blame him, after all he was invited to join the gravey train by Eric, who along with the parents who support this perverse appointment are the real poor judges of character. So many teachers have had such disasterous experiences with this person and been genuinely mystified why he could ever have been appointed and stunned that the owners and parents allow him to continue having seen now what he is like.My guess is that Swan is not the only one who has no idea what makes a good school.

What I don't understand is why anyone would even bother applying for a teaching job in Pattaya.

I know some people complain there is not much to do in Pattaya in the day. I often hang out at Royal Garden Plaza or Central Festival ( awesome mall ) during the daytime. Or just hang around near the beach near Soi 12. Soi 10/2nd road beer bar complex is also good after 1 pm to chill out and have a few beers. Also the Triangle Bar in Soi Chaiyapoon is good with it's two for one drink specials and hot thirty-something waitresses.

Some can be bar fined. Anyway, a few suggestions for Pattaya FT's.

He was in the Pattaya Mail with the head of Rugby talking anout universities! This is coming from a man who can't run a secondary school.

He forced out staff again and again to make way for his own staff without any regard for anybody but himself. Maybe some of the longer termers will chip in but in my brief time there I became aware very quickly how incompetent, dishonest and fake this man is. All I would urge is you view those on here, their experiences and make your own assessment of Swan. I'm amazed none of the parents are trying to get him out. How many more teachers have to leave or be sacked before you do something? Didn't meet the ex-head but my betting is it wasn't like this under him. I heard he had all teachers set for pay rises, helped Philippino teachers and kept a strong ship. Swan stopped pay rises forced out existing staff and those he did employ, hired them on hugely higher salaries with longer contracts. Took me a month to see through him. Don't let it fool you for much longer. What IS the parents' general consensus?

As I am newly sending my kid to Tara Pattana and as a former teacher myself in my country, I wish to know what has happened to all of you.

No one took to his 'leadership' because his facade was so transparent - I just can't believe he has blagged it for this long...doesn't look good for the judgement of the owner either.

According to teachers I spoke to, his management style basically involved undermining and hounding out those who didn't buy into his BS and he recruited people who would hopefully cover the gaps in his ability/knowledge ie everything. The bloke couldn't teach for toffee and he was
woefully inadequate at his job as a 'deputy principal'.

That's an understatement! You couldn't call him a deputy as such, as there were two of them supporting the head when I worked at the school. Which leads one to conclude that one or possibly both of them, must have been totally inadequate in their position, as two were needed. In all my years as a teacher, this was the first and only school that I worked at, were two 'deputy' head teachers were needed. That speaks volumes about the leadership of the place. He was next to useless in fact. Alas, everything else you posted is more or less right on target. He is indeed a 'master manipulator' as mentioned. His underhand tactics and general lack of any pertinent or useful knowledge with regards to education, were glaringly obvious. He is a characterless individual with zero people skills. As for a poster bringing up the near drowning of a child, that is also true. It happened on his watch. As so often is the case with these unqualified leaders, they will soon be found out as they inevitably end up out of their depth. He could never attain such a position in the UK, as he is not qualified for such a role. A few of my contacts in Regents have informed me, that he is struggling to progress in his new school and his grandiose plans have fallen flat, or even failed to get off the ground altogether. It must also be noted, that during Swans final months at Bromsgrove, over 30 teachers were let go (sacked) or did not have their contracts renewed. Again, Swan had a major input into this debacle. So, one must ask: were they all so bad that they had to be let go? Did they not fit into his ideal of a teacher? Which is interesting to note when one considers that, Mr. Swan is not suitably qualified to teach in UK schools. To do that properly, one needs to go through the rigorous process of QTS, which he does not have. Which in turn begs the question: how would he know what proper teaching entails, when he himself is not one?

SB - It's all true. That big lemon Swan, was hated at his old school. Actually, to be completely honest, he was reviled. The bloke couldn't teach for toffee and he was woefully inadequate at his job as a 'deputy principal'. It was well known that the only reason he got that job, was due to his slimy personality and length of service. Most people had enough of the school after a year or so and elected to move on.

Any good teacher worth their salt, moreover any fully qualified teacher with full QTS, soon saw through the shambles that was Swan. Incidentally SB, the lemon only has a tacked on PGCE to back up his Ba or is that BS? He's not even qualified to teach in a UK classroom! Moreover, he doesn't even have a headships qualification. Yes, unbelievable I know. He used to try and lord it over real teachers, and by that I mean those properly qualified to teach in a UK school. We were having none of it. And there were plenty of occasions when that the muppet was put back into his box. I mean like, who the hell is this guy? It's refreshing to see that he's getting found out for the manipulator and schemer that he really is. The word on the street is that he's under immense pressure down at the new school where he blagged his way into a headship. It's well overdue.

Thank you for your kind words my dear friend Diyos. I too hope that one day, you too can forgive and forget about the horrible time we spent at that place. The serpent you mention was indeed a horible Thai woman. She worked in the office and thought she was better than most. But she was a lazy woman that was very bad at her job. She was strange in many ways and she got very confused and many of the foreign teachers hated her because she could not organize the visas for them correctly and she kept making mistakes. Her name was G. She used to shout and bark like a small dog when she didn't know the answer to a question. She is a big bully who was close to the owner. I have heard that she was fired because she made too many mistakes. I was glad to hear this even though it is wrong to feel happy at other peoples bad luck. The good Lord works in his mysterious ways and I have great faith in him and these people will have a lot to answer for when the time comes. For now Diyos, I concentrate and pray I don't meet the bad people like this again. People that take advantage of the weaker people. Keep strong Diyos. May the good Lord watch over you always.

Is the owner a Thai-Chinese or a mainland Chinese? I've heard that even some beer bars on Beach Rd have been bought by mainland Chinese people.

I know one for sure ( near Soi 10 ) is Chinese owned. I'm sick of mainland Chinese people in Pattaya. The last thing Pattaya needs is more nasty and uncaring Chinese people with no morals.

How can you even be bothered teaching there? There are too many distractions. I'd want to be down at Spider Girl and Butterfly Bar in Soi 6 every afternoon!

Just because we are non native does that mean we should be treated like the dog?

Sorry you have been ill-used. You should go to China to teach where non-natural English speakers are more and more preferred to the genuine article because understandably they work out cheaper and they always have degrees.

On the downside, the Chinese girls don't provide leisure activities in the same way as Pattayan girls. I have a Russian friend who confirms what you claim and is treated like some low-life reptile......but he says the Pattayan girls make him put up with it all/more than make up for it.

Jolly good luck to you and remember your English is as good as the next man's.

Re Tara Pattana International School Pattaya

Hi Summer, we were sorry to hear that you guys had been treated so badly. Some the teachers had to remain tight lipped, as they were afraid of the consequences that might befall them, should they speak out. Many of us (parents), had long suspected that things were not as 'rosy' as they first appeared. That being said, we had no idea that things were truly as bad as that. Things were much better under the seasoned guidance of the previous headmaster. That man had a raft of experience of running and setting up schools, but we feel his hands were somewhat tied, due to financial constraints placed upon him by the owner. The school certainly seemed to be progressing nicely, and the atmosphere was much more positive. Unfortunately for whatever reason, Khun Eric wanted things to move at a faster pace, and rightly or wrongly, he was duped (what else could you call it?) into employing the present head.

As far as we are aware, numbers are more or less static, and the much touted 'savior' of the school, has proved to be a 'lame duck' of a hire. A quick look at the website, will give you an idea that the nos. are more or less the same as what they were a year or two ago. As to the mention of racism in your post, I do believe there is something amiss there, when so many long term staff from the Philippines were unceremoniously let go, for no other reason than they didn't fit into the 'new profile' of the school. I did on one occasion, witness the new head giving the hard working sports coach, a severe public dressing down. I often reflect upon how I should have pulled that man aside for berating and hectoring a member of staff in public like that. It was a disgraceful exhibition of self will run riot. You would not accept that behavior from a teacher, if it was your child on the receiving end of such a telling off. Surely any head worth their salt should know this.

A previous poster labeled the existing head as 'oily' and even went as far to call him a 'used car salesman' - that to me is a fair synopsis of that man, although its a tad unfair on hard working salesmen!

I'm glad things are working out for you Summer, and we wish you well.

Summer you write so beautifully and truly from your heart. It is the voice of suffering and anguish. As you know the true Mam of the school, some Thai lady I shall not name but legally regulation purpose cannot was also forced out by the owner and his serpent. May I quote John 8.44

You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father He was from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Summer forgive forgot move on my dear.
Unlike I can do. 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩

Greetings Dyos! May God bless you and your wonderful ways. I to worked at this establishment and I was very saddened with treatment i received at the hands of the new head and the Chinese owner. Just because we are non native does that mean we should be treated like the dog? Every day we Filipinos faced discrimination at this horrible school. Why is this? Why must we be faced with having to pay for are meals, when the foreign teachers eat for free? Why must we pay for our children's education when the international teachers get free education? Why do we not get air tickets to our home country too?Why must we live in a small room at the back of the school when the foreign teachers get to stay in a villa with a pool? Are we slaves that must do as we are told? Why must we get our pay taken from us when we were late for just a few minutes and the international teachers did not? Why do we work so hard on helping out with the productions and music but we got paid only a fraction of the other teachers? Why was there no medical insurance for the teachers? If the teacher got sick, the had to pay by themself!! I thank the Lord I did not get sick because I could not pay. How can it be that the headmasters wife gets to boss the teachers around when she didn't even have a degree? Why can this be allowed? The parents must be made to learn about this as many of my colleagues had degrees in education but this lady had no degree!! She to is not a a good person. Why must we call her mam? She never helped me when I had so many children to look after. She looked lost all the time!

This used to be a good school with a very nice headmaster who was fair and just. When the new boss came to the school, he forced most of the Filipino teachers out. He did not give us new contracts and we had to leave. this is so unfair! One lady teacher was pregnant with no job to go to, and Mr. Sw.. made her leave even though she was a very good teacher and worked very hard. That lady was very sad and scared of the unknown situation, she cried all the time. Only the devil could do this to a pregnant woman. How could this be allowed? No one came to help us, we were all alone. We had no voice at this school and Mr Sw.. has a very black heart that only our Lord can see. You know I was so sad to go to that school when he came. He is a racist man and he wanted us all gone. I try to pray for him to the Lord, so that my heart is clear but it is very difficult. But he did not act alone and Eric supported all his actions. I am so glad I leave that school as my health was beginning to suffer and I had to go to the doctor for depression.I can not forgive the injustice that was done to us on a daily basis but I will leave his fate to the Lord. May god bless you Dyos for being so brave!! Love from your friend and may God watch over you always.

Hi there everyone on this website forum. I myself do not particularly respond to usual talk like this as I prefer to say my words to the face of the person involved. But however in this circumstances the headmaster who is the subject of the talk is a particularly nasty human being and one who God created to challenge us. Me myself I found myself totally and utterly bullied by his ways. I felt so low in my life and everytime I try to talk with him he sent me away and told me 'stop being a negative!' Negative, I feel like not waking up to come to work. I feel like you look down at upon me. Because I am not native speaking? Because I am support staff? So why do you place in charge of the class many times if I am so bad?

Anyway I am happier now I left so God forgives and we must do so.

I just hope you get some karma for the misery you cause so many staff.

He should be named Mr.
Goose not swan!

That's fantastic! But then again, a goose is a useful creature. Swans are all show, with very little substance when you get down to it. They look good, but offer nothing! It's a fitting moniker, for sure. I'd describe this particular individual as 'oily'. He's the kinda guy that wouldn't look outta place on a used car lot! Ha ha ha! He's a used car salesman!!! Brilliant! :D

I was there under his stewardship for but a month and he managed to put me off teaching for life.

He paid staff at completely different scales, forcing out the long serving through bullying and nepotism. I can't speak low enough of his failings. He installed a culture of back stabbing and bad management then had the audacity to belittle staff who complained by calling them negative!!!

If ever there is a school to avoid its this one so long as the current head is there. If I had kids I'd homeschool before letting this plonker ruin them. He should be named Mr. Goose not swan!

Oh my God! I just stumbled across this!! Wow! I can't believe it! I am sooo glad that I did. The headmaster, Mr. S%@n (calling him a head is a tad ambitious!) is an A1 douche bag. What a horrible little man he is. I taught at that school for a while last year, and I have to say, it was the most stressful few months of my life. This man does not have the faintest idea about how to manage his staff. He's completely shut off from reality, as he sits in his office with his head buried into the Twitter feeds, to see what useless piece of educational jargon he can rip off, and try and pass on as his own! This man is a clown! We can see through you Mr. Fancy Pants! Ha ha ha!

What about his wife! Ha ha ha! She has no education at ALL and she demands to be referred to as Ma'am!! Who does she think she is, the Queen of England? Pants to that! She wasn't fit to comb my hair, let alone work in a school... Didn't she, ahem, sell cosmetics beforehand? And doesn't she like to party a little too hard? WOW! Oh the glee! Thank God for the net, so that people can find out about the type of people who run these so called international schools. I hope any prospective teachers or parents out there pick this up, so they can hopefully avoid the stress and mental torture that Mr. Fancy Pants would subject them too. Watch this space!!!

Avoid Tarra at all costs - 2016-12-27
Tara Pattana International School Pattaya

This is a terrible school with an even worse head. The head teacher of the school, a certain unqualified Mr [edited], jumped ship from his previous school in Bangkok (Bromsgrove another Mickey Mouse establishment), before he was fired for the near drowning of a pupil whilst he was on duty. He has since transferred his gross ineptitude and incompetence to Tara, [edited].

I was a paying parent there, and my wife and I were so dismayed at the lack of leadership that the head demonstrated on a near daily basis, that we chose to lose our money and leave. Children were assaulted by other students. And students with severe SEN were placed in all the daily classes. Mr. [edited] summarily washed his hands of any and all responsibility.

This man has subsequently been the exodus of many of the new qualified teachers. When he is asked as to the reason behind so many quality staff leaving, his answer is always the same, "They left for personal reasons". This man is a terrible role model and upon further investigation into his background, it has been established that he was only a coordinator in his last school and he does not in fact process the necessary qualifications to head up a school. In short, Mr. [edited] has ruined a perfectly good school, and he has made the positions of the school so unbearable, that a lot of the teachers have left.

We have since moved to better and more established "real" international school. If you elect to send your child here, be prepared for the run a round and a waste of time and not to mention a lot of money.
