I agree with you on that. Teaching qualifications and ethical conduct of teaching on the part of the ESL teacher is only one thing. That's only one part of the larger picture.
Yes, well I wish we could shrink this bigger picture down a bit. I'm fed up with hearing about these teaching qualifications. The question we should address is are the teaching qualifications any good or not? Can the highly qualified teacher teach English expressions correctly-or will he substitute important words into time-tested expressions? Will his sentences which he teaches be coherent or not? Will his grammar meet the acid test?
Drunk on duty? I want to inform you that most FT's in China, degree-holders or degreeless are pretty responsible as far as drink is concerned. You get the odd one who proves the rule. We should not give any more time over to discussing booze. Like the question of paedophiles; drunks and paedophiles don't exist in any great numbers in China. Of course there's nothing wrong with going to bars in your free time; as long as you desist from frequenting places of easy virtue, giving us all a bad name. Unless you have a difficult character, there's no problem finding a decent girlfriend in China.
