Re: Re Crappy working environments

I disagree with putting down good teachers who go to work at EF as being guilty by association. Good teachers can do a lot of good in those places and if more good teachers went there, they wouldn't be able to get away with half of what they do with teachers like CT who don't really give a toss about their students. Which is why I agree with you that Chinese owners don't really want qualified, decent teachers as they know their antics will be exposed.

Very good points, Londongirl
Turnoi, I hope you will consider these 3 lines from a deep place in your heart where you know that good people can be caught in bad situations, like you were under the soviet system.

Re Crappy working environments

You kinda missed my point about the scam thing, lol, but...

I have a friend who still works at EFDL and he's qualified and dedicated. He doesn't get involved in the politics and stays out of everything I stood up and shouted about. However, he loves his students, works hard for them and provides great lessons and education for them. He is one of the most easygoing people I have ever met in.my life and I am also aware he is an exception to the rule. But he is also the reason I will never blindly tar all with the same brush, there are individual cases that warrant a closer look. Hence why I disagree with your guilt by association theory. I gave them hell for the two years I was with them and I know that made some differences to how things were done in the centres I worked for. I will never accept that this makes me guilty of anything but looking out for my students, who have no say in where their parents send them to learn English and as such deserve the best I can give them.

I lost no money when I left, but mainly because I went over the CMs head and directly to Cecilia Calvo with my reasons for leaving; after my showdown with the disastrous replacement DoS Calvo later fired, I think they would have been willing to pay me extra just to leave quietly! But believe me, I didn't! I stayed until each of my classes had finished the course they were studying so as not to disrupt them by changing teachers mid-course (especially as I knew what my replacement would be like!), and upon leaving spoke directly to the parents of most of my classes to advise them to pull their children out of the school, which most did.
