Re: Re EF Dalian

That is a valid point about the funding. They do have to fill quotas and balance the books, so to speak.

Re: Re EF Dalian

I care about providing the best level of education possible for my students, be they in a public school, an EF centre, a university or an academy.

Good, but remove EF centre and academy from that statement and I will agree with you.

Unfortunately, at many an example of a public university... You are really just there to secure extra funding for them. Could rant even more about the use/abuse of volunteers too.

When it comes to ESL in China, you can inspire the odd student here and there and make a very positive impression upon them, but it will take more than just a few good, honest foreign teachers to clear up the whole mess that the industry is in.

And now, I'm checking back out, see you later...

Re: Re EF Dalian

This ridiculous post is precisely why I wouldn't recommend any teacher looking for help to come to this board. Your entire attitude disgusts me.

I will never understand why everyone here dismisses the students who go to language centres; are they not deserving of a good teacher simply because their parents have chosen to send them to an EF centre? Of course not! Caring about education does not mean one has to work in a specific place, it means you have a duty to do your best for the students in your care, regardless of where you are. I care about providing the best level of education possible for my students, be they in a public school, an EF centre, a university or an academy.

Re: Re EF Dalian

You are also are a hypocrite when you say you care about and value education over money

Absolutely right. It DISGUSTS me to get these american, british and other westerners who think they need to work at a training centre to make a difference when all they care about is saving as much money as they can. I preferred my leisure time too much to sacrifice it working for one of these swiss run model places. All you are is a number on a chart, a statistic, a figure to them, nothing more, nothing less.

If she really cared about education in China, she would have worked at a good public place even for less money. The fact she did not speaks volumes about her mentality.
