Re: Kids Herald School in Cheonan

Well,
I have worked for Kids Herald in Cheonan during 2005-2006 for about 10 months, and all I can say is that Sally is a real bitch. She fired me 10 months into the 12 month contract I guess mainly to save money. Her husband mr lee is just a bit of a dishrag and besides that he is not that bad. Lewis the supervisor was nice bu he did not want to loose his job so he agreed with sally [edited] on anything. I was not te first to be fired under dubious circumstances and maybe not the lats. Also I managed to get anew job quite easily, but then they got a reference from that [edited][edited] and they recinded their offer. In the end I got a much better job onthe EPIC program and never looked back since.

If you're lazy and want a 20 hour a week job with lots of time to play and pretend you're still in college, don't come here. They won't like you. And I don't think anyone should. You're lazy. You're unemployed for a reason. I don't understand all these foreigners coming to Korea and expecting things to be so different from the states or wherever you're coming from. At least you'll be hired!

What's wrong with a 20 hour a week job if you are furthering your education, like free time to write, study a language, travel, or as has been mentioned on these boards before, looking for a wife.

Maybe we shouldn't like THEM. Maybe we shouldn't change our expectations. Maybe they are lazy. Maybe they only have jobs because of foreigners working there.

All these foreigners expecting things to be different, yes, all well and good, but it's a two way street.

At least you'll be hired! So we should get down on our knees and kiss their boots in gratitude while they make millions out of the EFL business...now I got it!

Re Kids Herald School in Cheonan

Honestly, after working for Cheonan Kids Herald School for over a year, the conclusion I have made from these comments is that the previous authors were lazy teachers who came to Korea hoping for an easy job with not too much responsibility. A school is a school, no matter what country you're in. You have to put time in - quality time - to be able to give kids a quality education. When a person doesn't put effort in, they get negative results from their boss.

Please try to find me an employer in the U.S. or anywhere else that won't fire you for doing a crap job in their place of business. Then I'll find your complaints valid.

I in no way have had a stellar year based on how I could be treated working in a school in the states. That being said, every single friend I have working in hogwans here in Korea has some form of drama to report. At least at Cheonan Kids Herald School we get paid on time. Many people in Korea can't say the same thing.

If you want to be a teacher, accept a job here. If you put in 100% of your effort and feel you're doing a good job as a teacher, you'll be received well.

Work hard, as a teacher should, and you'll be fine. The Korean co-workers at this school are the best in the country as far as I've heard. They're great with communication and have become some of my closest friends here. Most of my foreign friends can't say the same.

Take into account the cultural differences before you say no to anything. People who aren't cut out to teach fail here and are bitter so they write really bad reviews. Take that into perspective as well.

I think that was a despicable thing for them to do. I know Korean ESL territory well enough to know many hagwon owners are capable of the most inhumane acts towards their FTs. I have to say that the ESL market in the ROK is dubious enough to merit warning to those who go their without an easy, effective means to leave. That's just the way it often is for an ESL teacher.

I was the very first teacher, along with my then boyfriend, for Kids Herald when that school opened. After 7 months I had a kidney infection that IV drugs didn't touch, so I asked for 1 week to go back to the US to be hopsitalized. They fired me for leaving, but didn't tell me until after I was back in Korea. They forced me to leave the school without even the opportunity to say goodbye. They owed both of us a lot of money, they were unsympathetic to the point of being inhumane, and I've always felt bad that the people who were hired after us were friends of ours. Sorry, guys!! This school was a blacklist classic.

Kids Herald School in Cheonan

Beware of this school...they're only had one teacher in the past 5 or so years finish a contract. In the 10th month of mine, they fired me with one day notice and I had to take them to the labor board to get the money they owed me. The owners, Mr. Lee and Sally Park seem really nice at first when they're recruiting you but it's bad news. Save yourself the trouble and just say no to Kids Herald School in Cheonan.
