Resume and Interview Tips

Writing A Thank You Letter After A Job Interview
By:Vikesh Ghelani

Just after your job interview is over, its absolutely important that you write a thank you letter or thank you email to the interviewer. You must do it as soon as possible and preferably within 24 hours of attending the interview. Many interviewers drop candidates from the prospective list if this follow up through the thank you note is not done immediately.

Thank the interviewer for his time and the opportunity of interview through a simple letter or email. Remember, this note is another chance for you to reiterate your keen interest for the job and list your skills and accomplishments demonstrating your suitability for the job. Share with them what you learnt more about the company during the interview and about the requirements of the job and tell them how you best fit the requirements. This letter must have the urge of a sales letter. Preferably, this note should be typed and written in a tone commensurate to the general profile of the organization and your level of interaction and rapport with the interviewers during the interview. If you think that you were quite informal in the discussions and have that level of proximity, you can write in a personal tone, even in your own handwriting. However, this is entirely on you to decide the tone of the letter.

If you were interviewed by a group, decide on whether you should write a group thank you letter or write to them individually. This decision also rests on you and depends on the level of your interaction with the board members. If you were taken out for lunch or dinner and interviewed there, write thank you letters to all the members present thanking them for their time and the opportunity to get together. Remember, timing is important. If sitting down and writing a comprehensive letter listing your interest and capability for the job and sending it in the thank you note is time consuming for you, have the plain thank you mail sent immediately and follow it up with another detailed expression of interest. Before sending the thank you letter, you must proofread to ensure that it contains no grammatical mistakes, typos and spelling errors.
