Resume and Interview Tips

Resume Writing Tips
By:Robert Charlton

Unless you have been unusually lucky and landed your dream job on the first attempt, you have probably had more than one job. Fast food places and retail stores usually do not require a resume, but for office jobs, you will need a few resume writing tips to get you through the first draft. Resume writing help can come from a variety of places. The main thing to know is that there are different types of resumes to showcase different work skills and experiences.

The type you will use depends largely on your work experience, your education and the type of job you are looking for. The first type is the Chronological resume. It goes by dates and is best used when you are looking to showcase your dedication to your career. If you have had several jobs in the past, then this type is not for you. To write an effective resume, you must choose the style that fits your circumstances best.

The second type is the Functional resume. This type will focus more on your skills. This is the type of resume to use if you have had multiple jobs. It focuses more on the knowledge you have acquired over the years, along with applicable job skills. Even so, you will still need to write down the dates and duration of each job, along with your previous employers.

The final type is the Combination resume. It is a combination of the Functional and Chronological resumes. Use this one if you have been in one career and intend to keep pursuing jobs in this career path. It will list your past work experience and the skills you have acquired, along with detailed information about the typical job duties you have performed.

Writing a resume is not as difficult as you might think. Once you understand the differences between the three types, you can find sample resumes on the internet or your local bookstore. If all else fails, then you may need to hire a resume writer or find a friend who can write it for you. Just organize your information and provide him or her with the details.
