Resume and Interview Tips

Resume Writing - How Many Pages are Appropriate?
By:Lisa Chapman

Once upon a time someone created a rule that resumes should only be one page in length. What you need to know is that this someone has never been found and that the rule to page length varies based on numerous criteria.

While most recent college grads and other entry-level candidates will create a one page resume, in most cases, a two page resume is very acceptable almost demanded. What you have to consider is the information you will be including in the resume you write. If there is enough quantifiable information for inclusion, go to a second page. In most instances, hiring agents do not care about the length of the resumes they review, but the content of those resumes. If your content is strong, submitting a two page resume is absolutely appropriate.

Information you must include in your resume should speak to the value you offer employers, core competencies youve attained over the years, and quantifiable accomplishments. Employers are not very interested in what your day-to-day responsibilities are as much as what your contributions have been to the employers youve work for in the past. Future performance is measured by past performance. Employers want to know what youve done for your former employers so they can predict what it is you can do for them. Employers also want to know that you will make them money, save them money, improve productivity, develop new processes, and more.

It is very important to quantify your accomplishments as every employer loves to see numbers. What most people do when they write their own resumes is provide too little information. Being objective enough and knowledgeable enough about what employers want to review on a resume is nearly impossible for most people. Hiring a professional resume writer to do this work for you is an investment you will never regret.
