Resume and Interview Tips

Resume Tips - The 10 Tips Every Job Seeker Should Know (Miss Them at Your Own Risk)
By:John Saldivar

Getting a dream job is not an easy task, but you can do it. If you set your mind, you can. That's why we have here the 10 bullet-proof tips for a better resume. Miss them at your own risk.

1) Be Neat and Error Clean. Very important, this can be the difference between getting a job or don't. Everyday the Human Resources department gets lots of applications, some recruiters automatically remove the applications that have gramatic mistakes and are not well organized.

2) State Specific Objectives. Form a very clear objective that will help you carry a focus message through the resume. The objective must summarize your skills and emphasize your strengths.

3) Ask yourself: "Why would an employer need you?". Is very important to ask this question, on your resume focus on highlighting accomplishments that would be of interest of your employer. The recruiter would ask "What can this candidate do for me?". Remember that the end goal is to get the interview.

4) The First Impression is Critical. Most recruiters spend less than 30 seconds scanning resumes. And for your knowing, most employers care much more on Career Achievements than education. Remember to place the most important and compelling facts about yourself in the beginning, in order of relevance.

5) Emphasize your skills. Use a skill-based format that is organized around your main talents you have to offer. Show them your competitive advantage.

6) Qualify your Experience. Employers want to know how would you help the organization in making more money, so for them is very important to know about your experience. Tell them about your milestones in recent organizations, sales records, etc. They'll love to hear about that.

7) Use Recent Information. Is okay to use information about your past. But get your resume update every time you can. The general rule of thumb is to show your work experience only for the last 10 to 15 years.

8) Omit Salary Information. Never make reference to a salary in your resume.

9) Be Honest (Seriously). Is great that you can talk about your skills, but be honest with yourself and the employer. Lying or exaggerating would haunt you in the end. Most professional recruiters would check your background, and if you aren't honest you'll lose credibility and the job.

10) Sell Yourself. Show the right attitude, tell them why they should hire you and not the other people. Show them the extra you would go to get the job done and get them more than what they would pay you for. Many times the right attitude would be the difference between landing the job or don't.
