How to Prepare for an Employment Assessment Test
By:Tameka McSpadden

Many companies that require specialized skills or have experienced high turnover require all job applicants to take an employment assessment test. These tests are given to ensure that all applicants are suited to the open position or positions. If you are required to take an employment assessment test, improve your chances for success by being physically and mentally prepared.

How to Prepare for an Employment Assessment Test

Brush up on all skills before your test date. If you haven't used a certain software program or exercised a specialized skill in a few weeks or months, do so before your test. Reviewing what you have learned in the past will refresh your memory and increase your confidence.

Talk to your family members and friends about your upcoming assessment test. You might know someone who can provide some insight on the test. Even if you do not know anyone who has taken an employment assessment test, you are sure to get some encouragement and moral support.

Get plenty of rest the night before your assessment test so you will not be tired and irritable during the test. Make sure your household respects your need for sleep. If you are keyed up and cannot get to sleep, try listening to calming music.

Show up early to the test and bring an extra copy of your résumé. Many employers make employment assessment tests part of their standard application. You might need to fill out an additional application after taking your test, and having a résumé handy will help you and impress your prospective employer.

Pay attention to all instructions and ask questions before you start. Many employment assessment tests are timed, so stopping to ask questions during the test could prevent you from finishing it. To avoid problems during your test, listen to every instruction carefully, regardless of how self-explanatory things seem.
