Resume and Interview Tips

Job Interview Tips & Answers
By:Arnold Anderson

When you finally get a job interview as the result of your job-hunting efforts, you want to be sure that you are prepared for your interview. In order to impress the hiring manager, you should take heed of some job-interviewing tips and review how to answer the more popular interview questions.

Research
Before you step into the interview room, you should know as much about the company you are talking to as possible. Research the company on the Internet to find out its history, its structure and how well it has performed financially over the past few years. If you have time, you should order a current Annual Report to review it for important information. Try to find out as many specifics about the position you are interviewing for and be prepared to impress the hiring manager at your interview.

Practice
Always write out the answers to potential questions, and then practice giving those answers before your interview. You can practice by watching yourself speak in a mirror to help you formulate words and give a look of confidence. Have someone help you rehearse.

Short Answers
Work on being able to deliver short but effective answers for your interview. Do not give the interviewer information they did not ask for and avoid repeating yourself when you speak.

Where Do You See Yourself in Five Years?
The question about where you see yourself in five years is the hiring manager's way of seeing if you have a plan for your own future. The company is not going to be interested in planning for your future if you do not seem interested in it. This is a common question, but a very important one for you to answer.

Greatest Work Accomplishment?
This is a chance to talk about yourself. The hiring manager is looking for confidence and a little humility. Give credit to your co-workers when you can, and tell your story as concisely as possible in order to allow the hiring manager to ask questions. Include anything you learned as you completed your project. Explain how your success affected your approach to your job.

Biggest Work Failure?
Hiring managers want to hear you own up to a mistake and find out what you learned from it. Explain the situation and your role in the failure, and then elaborate on what you learned from the experience that helped you in another situation later on. This is a question that checks on your ability to adapt and move on from adversity.
