Resume and Interview Tips

Tips on Employment Applications
By:Daniel Westlake

Employment applications are one of the main things companies look at when considering hiring a prospective applicant. These are often filled out and submitted to the employer for him to review. Sometimes he will call candidates in for an interview, other times, he will hire the applicant on the spot. There are specific things one should do when filling out an employment application.

Fill Everything Out
Applicants should leave nothing on the employment application blank. This will show the prospective employers that you have nothing to hide and really want the job. An employment application is a place for you to share yourself and make an impression on the employer so she is confident you are right for the job. Filling out the application completely will help convey that message.

Treat Application Like a Resume
By treating your application like a resume, you are selling yourself through the application itself. This means make it great, something that the employer can't put down or must know more about. Good writing skills will make your application both intelligent and to the point. Be honest and concise with what you write, telling where you went to school, where you worked in the past, what skills you have and are valued for and what awards, if any, you have acquired. Also explain where you see yourself in five to 10 years, showing that you have goals and will work hard to attain them.

Ask For Help
If there is something you don't understand on your employment application and you are worried about filling it out incorrectly, ask for help. This will show you ask for clarification when you don't entirely understand something and it will demonstrate that you want to do a good job. Asking questions does not make you unqualified for the job---it ensures you give the employer the exact information she need to know. Also, always be polite when asking these questions, since whoever you ask may be involved in the employee selection process.
