Resume and Interview Tips

Interview Skills for Young People
By:Collaborator

An effective interview proves to the interviewer that you are the best candidate for a job and that you will help make the company more successful. Several keys to persuading an interviewer that you are best for the job include presenting visual and spoken proof that hiring you would improve the company. Young candidates often suffer the disadvantage of being considered immature simply because they are young, so for young candidates, good interview skills are especially important, as it shows maturity.

Know the Company
A sound knowledge of the potential employer will guide your ability to answer questions and seem more mature. The research should include basic information such as the line of business in which the company operates, but it also may include information about the company's philosophies on work environment. Before an interview, it is wise to conduct a simple Internet search on the company and current news regarding the company.
Once you have an understanding of the company, relate this information to your resume. Assess how the company's goals can be bettered by your contributions and how examples in your resume prove that.

Etiquette
Politeness can be the difference in getting a job or not, even for jobs that do not require human interaction. Being polite encourages the interviewer to continue to get to know you. This, in turn, will make the interviewer more likely to advocate for your hiring.

Sound Bites
Most people, including interviewers, have short attention spans. Consequently, the first part of an answer is more likely to be remembered than something buried in the middle. Before entering the interview, prepare about six succinct points that you want to make in the interview, related to the benefits that you can offer to the potential employer.
