Resume and Interview Tips

What Is the Format for Resumes for Teachers?
By:Lisa Duncan

Teachers who need a resume should not worry so much about a particular format. The key is to create a well-written resume in any format. Because teaching is an in-demand field, a solid resume for a teacher will help land a good teaching position.

Chronological Format
Chronological format, like the name indicates, is a resume format that highlights where and when you have worked. These formats put the most recent position at the top and go backwards in time.

Functional Format
The functional format is a good choice for a teacher who is just out of school, as it provides the chance to highlight school achievements. This format describes a teacher's skills and accomplishments, instead of where she has worked. This format is also called a skills format.

Combination Format
If a teacher wants to highlight skills at the top of the resume, in bulleted form, then state when and where he has worked in chronological order, combination format is a good choice.

Cover Letter
A well-crafted cover letter should be attached to the front of the resume. A cover letter is a teacher's opening statement as to why she should be chosen for the position. Edit, edit, and re-edit the cover letter.

Warning
Double-check the spelling and grammar on the teaching resume. Nothing looks worse then a poorly edited resume.

Considerations
Many word editing programs, such as Microsoft Word, have resume templates that are user-friendly and help format a resume.
