Resume and Interview Tips

How to List College Courses on a Resume
By:Aksana Nikolai

The average employer is busy, spending no longer than two minutes on examining a resume. Therefore, your resume should concisely present information--which can include college coursework--that may distinguish you from other candidates. Do not list every single college-level class that you have taken, which is likely to cause the employer to lose interest in your resume. Instead, maximize your appeal by being selective in the courses you include.

Decide which of the courses you completed are relevant to the field you are applying for. If you feel that none of your coursework relates to the job you are seeking, think of unusual classes you took that are not available at many other colleges or that show your desire to expand your academic horizons. Such subjects can provide for interesting discussion between you and the employer during the interview process.

Begin a new paragraph within the "Education" section of your resume.

List the colleges you graduated from, are currently enrolled in or previously attended. For each, write a header consisting of the title of the degree and college name, separated by a comma.

Indicate the time period during which you attended the given college, for instance "2006-9" or "anticipated 2009" if you are currently pursuing a degree from the given institution.

Write "Study focused on" or "Relevant coursework in," followed by the titles of any pertinent courses.
