Resume and Interview Tips

How to Find Resume Tips

Writing your first resume may seem intimidating, especially if you know it has to stand out among all of the others that an employer has to review. There are a variety if ways to find advice and tips on writing a resume and you should try several different sources to gather as much knowledge as you can about what you should include. A few of these sources cost some money while the others are free.

Go to a website that gives free tips and advice on how to construct your resume (see Resources). Read through the bulleted list in the website in Resource 1, or click on "Resume Writing Tips" to view the information in the website in Resource 2. Resource 3 offers a list resume writing tips for specific jobs, so scroll through the links and click on one that applies to you.

Log on to a website where you can order books online, or an e-book store and type "resume" in the search box. Scroll through the list of results to find the one that would be most specific to you. For example, if you want to apply for a job in a "scientific or technical career," type that in the search box as well. Order the book that you want from the website. Alternatively, go to a book store and search in the career help or advice section.

Go to your local library and type "resume tips" in the search box in one of the library computers to find the books in their database. When you find a book in the database that you want, look at the status to see if it is available. Copy down the call number, which is a long series of letters and numbers which will help you locate the book in the library. The first two letters represent the section where you should look, and the following numbers behind the decimals are on the spine of the book itself. When you find the book, check it out.

Contact someone who works in the field that you want to get into and politely ask them for advice on what to include on your resume. If you know someone who is an employer or someone works in a public relations department, ask them if they would share some helpful tips with you on what hiring managers look for in a resume.





Go to another board -
