By:Ana Thames <annathames@yahoo.com>

There is no such perfect resume format that can impress the recruiters. Each format of CV holds its importance. There are several formats of resume. Today, there are three main formats in use. They are – functional format, chronological format and combination format. Select the format that will possibly highlight your details in an effective way so that the prospective employer knows positive things about you. You can choose the resume format that suits your qualifications and needs of the job.

Different Resume Formats:
There are three main formats in use today:

Functional Format
 Chronological Format
 Combination Format

Out of the above three formats, the functional one is used by the candidates with frequent job hopping in their past career. This format is very useful in hiding the employment gaps in the work history of the applicant. Skills in this format are presented with the explanation of how you can implement them in your prospective work to improve your efficiency. Thus, you can focus on your skills rather than your experiences in the functional format.

Chronological format is best suitable for fresher applicant. This will highlight the existing skills of the applicant. Work history and educational details are listed in reverse chronological format starting with the most recent details followed by the next recent qualifications. This format mainly focuses on the skills of the applicant; hence, it is best suitable for fresher applicants as they will not have job experience to get attention from employers.

Combination format, as the name suggests, is the combination of above two formats. Work history will not include the corresponding employment dates and thus will hide any employment gaps. Educational details are presented in chronological order. Special attention is given on listing skills to make employer know about the job related qualities of the applicant.

Now you know about the resume formats in use, you can select the one that suits your requirements and highlights you in the best possible way. Every format is best to get you the job opportunity if the details are listed explicitly and accurately. Employers are always interested to know about the job related qualities possessed by you. They are not interested in knowing your details other than this. Hence, remember to list the details that are most relevant to the applied position and the one that are expected by the employer.
Whatever format you choose, make sure to list the details appropriately. Resume must not look crowded with details. It must be easy to read and have pleasant visual appearance.
