Resume Tips: How to Impress a Potential Employer With Your Resume
By:Jerome Curry

One of the number one secrets people don't know about writing their resume is research. An HR manager is looking for someone who will not just be an employee but take ownership of the company. There are several ways to research your company but I will give you information on my favorite one.

Google

You will find valuable information on your company in Google that can be used in your resume. For example just looking at the website for one employer you can find several tidbits that can used in your resume. Here are few words thrown around on the website formidable assets: our brands, our financial strength, global reach, our unrivaled distribution system and strong commitment of our management and employees worldwide.

So if I were writing a client resume for a management position for this employer I would focus on how I can better expand current assets and tout any management experience that I may have. I would then make my experience relate to what this employer has on its home page. This technique can be used by teachers, doctors or lawyers.

The key to using internet research is to dig down deep into your company's information to make your resume specific as possible. One the fastest ways to get your resume trashed is by dumping the same resume onto hundreds of job boards. There are hundreds quite possibly thousands of applicants so you must have a competitive advantage.

Another way to use the internet to make your resume is to find recent articles that the company may have written or published. By researching this information you will have a finger on the heartbeat for where the company is headed. You can also use Google News, CNN.com, or the Wall Street Journal to find valuable information on your company.

For example be if a company had recently put out an article on a new up and coming product you would simply mention how you have sold or have tested similar products. This idea alone will propel your resume above the fold and get you into the A-pile on the employer's desk.

The internet provides several opportunities to get information on your dream company's hiring process. I would encourage before you put in your next resume check online to see how you can use their website to your benefit. And remember in order to get ahead of your competition think outside the box what can you bring to the table no one else can.
