Resume and Interview Tips

How to Write a Resume for a Job in Education
By:Collaborator

After student teaching, getting your education degree, and getting certified to teach, a resume should be the last thing to stand in the way of you getting the teaching job you want. As with any resume, an education resume needs to be polished and organized effectively. But there are also some instructions you should follow in areas where education resumes differ from other kinds of resumes. Read on to learn more.

Use two pages. Education resumes can be more than a single page, but shouldn't exceed two pages. Fit your resume into an even two pages or a page and a half. The page looks messy if you only fill out a third or two-thirds of the second page.

Include certificates and teaching licenses in your resume. This is in addition to the usual categories of educational background, honors or awards and work experience. Also, point out professional associations and activities such as research and publications and special abilities or interests such as coaching, reading education or multicultural education.

Describe your certifications. Include the state in which you were licensed, fields you are eligible to teach by employment date and grade levels you can teach.

Divide your experiences. List your related teaching experiences in chronological order, starting with the most recent one. Then add non-teaching experience, which you can call additional experience. Highlight how you went beyond required duties in your related jobs. Show how other jobs improved your teaching abilities.

Highlight aspects of your experience that qualify you for the job or jobs you are seeking.
