A solid, informative and error-free resume may be the push that opens the door of employment opportunity. An advertised vacancy signals not only a chance for you to secure the job for which you have been searching, but also an employer's chance to hire an individual who may contribute to its success. The "best resume" must convey clearly and concisely why you are the person who can fill the employer's needs.

Choose a resume style that will draw attention to your strong points. Chronological resumes list your work history starting with your most recent job. They work well for people who have a long, solid work history. Functional resumes list your work history starting with the job that gave you the most relevant experience. These are good for people who have a short or irregular employment history, such as recent graduates.

Get to the point. Explain what makes you the best choice for the job. Prospective employers do not read every resume from start to finish. A human resources director who sees no relevant information in an initial scan of the resume may toss it aside.
