Resume and Interview Tips

How to List Publications on a Resume
By:J.M. Willhite

Writing the perfect resume is the goal of every job seeker. When writing your resume, keep all the essential information, such as job history and objectives, in mind. Individuals trying to break into or move up in writing or journalism should list where they've been published along with the traditional resume information.

List all names under which you have written.

List publications in chronological order, with the most recent work first and the rest following in descending order.

Note the type of publication, using brackets to denote the different types of publications or projects, such as editing projects, layout/design projects, articles or poetry.

Include the complete title of the publication and the complete title of the article. If the article is one in a series, indicate this by stating where it falls in the series and the name of the series.

Include the issue and volume numbers for articles that have appeared in periodicals or magazines. After the type of publication, list the name of the publication, the issue/volume number(s), page number(s) and date of publication.

State the full web address for articles that have appeared online. Be sure to update the address if it changes.

Use quotation marks to set off titles of articles, short stories and poetry. Underline book titles. Use italics to set off newspaper, magazine and newsletter titles.

Keep your publications list updated.

Provide access to your articles for potential employers, such as web addresses and clippings.
