Ten Inspirational and Poignant Quotes
By:Frank Fausto

Over thousands of years, and in hundreds of languages, great men and women have spoken or written profound and moving words that are just as relevant and poignant in modern society as they were in their own times.

These quotes come from a broad spectrum of people from various eras and vastly different walks of life. From authors, such as William Faulkner and Plutarch, to inventors, such as Thomas Edison.

1. "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller (1880 -1968). Born blind and deaf, Keller earned a Bachelor's degree and went on to become a political activist, author and lecturer.

2. "The whole of life is but a moment of time. It is our duty, therefore to use it, not to misuse it." - Plutarch (46AD - 120AD) A Greek biographer, essayist and historian, Plutarch is best known for his series of biographies, Parallel Lives.

3. "There are no classes in life for beginners: right away you are always asked to deal with what is most difficult." - Rainer Maria Rilke (1847 - 1926). Rilke was a Bohemian-Austrian poet who is recognized as one of the greatest poets in German literature.

4. "Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do doesn't mean it's useless." - Thomas Edison (1847 - 1931). American inventor, scientist and businessman. Edison is best known for inventing the electric light bulb, phonograph and moving picture camera.

5. "Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt you represents determinism; the way you play it is free will." - Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 - 1964). Nehru was the first, and longest-standing (to date) Indian prime minister.

6. "Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of." - Benjamin Franklin (1706 -1790). One of the United States' Founding Fathers, Franklin was a great polymath.

7. "All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible." - T. E. Lawrence (1888 - 1935). Known as Lawrence of Arabia, T. E. Lawrence was a British Army officer.

8. "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 - 1962) Wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt became a civil rights campaigner, author and politician.

9. "To unpathed waters, undreamed shores." - William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) English poet and playwright, Shakespeare is considered, by many, to be the greatest literary mind of all time.

10. "The end of wisdom is to dream high enough not to lose the dream in the seeking of it." - William Faulkner (1897 - 1962). Nobel Prize winning author, Faulkner is best known for his novels The Sound and The Fury and Father Abraham.

Frank Fausto draws inspiration from those who lived before us. In particular he is a fan of Thomas Edison quotes. If you want to read some of Edison's quotes, or learn more about Thomas Edison inventions, follow Frank's writings http://www.edisonmuckers.org/thomas-edison-inventions/.
