The last few years has seen an explosion of Westerners marrying Filipina ladies. I have been happily married to a happy Filipina for 20 years, so consequently many people ask me why are so many Westerners marrying Filipinas. With my experience and observations, I have been able to narrow it down to the following reasons.

1. A Flilipina is a unique Asian lady

The Filipina is comfortable loving and marrying men of another race, while most Asians "lose face" if they marry outside their own culture. The Philippines has been a cultural and racial crossroad for thousands of years. They know more about the North American culture than any other group of ladies. As a result, she can adapt very readily, yet retain her traditional values.

2. A Filipina's strongest desire is to connect with her husband

Individualism is a very difficult concept for her to embrace.

3. She believes that all experiences are to be shared

Her strongest daily urge is to connect with others, and in so doing become one with all.

4. A Filipina will not "get in your face"

In a dispute situation, a Filipina will go out of her way to avoid any direct confrontation. She will not "get in your face"; rather, she will hide her feelings behind what appears to be a genuinely friendly smile, or she will simply go silent on you.

5. She is tolerant with foreigners

A Filipina would not want to do anything which would cause you to "lose face". What seems natural and logical to a Westerner as to what to do or say in a given situation is usually the direct opposite of how a Filipina lady's mind thinks or how she acts. Yet through all this difference she remains tolerant with a Westerner's different way of thinking and acting.

6. A Filipina wife is polite, grateful and loyal

The Filipina has been taught since childhood to be faithful, sincere, grateful and obedient. Culturally, from her mother, her aunties and from the church she has been instructed in the skills and duties to please a man. Instinctively she knows how to keep him content and how to create a comfortable atmosphere in the home.

7. She is very comfortable loving and marrying a man of another race and/or country

The Philippines has been a cultural and racial crossroad for thousands of years, which makes for a wonderful mix of Malay, Chinese, Spanish, American, Japanese and other blood lines.

8. She values harmony in the home above all else

Filipino culture places emphasis on smooth interpersonal relationships, with harmony being prized and loss of face avoided. Consequently, a Filipina is easily forgiving of her husband.

9. A Filipina knows more about the Western culture than any other Asian lady

As a result, she can adapt very readily, yet retain her traditional family and husband focused values.

10. Older foreigners are attractive to a Filipina

She perceives an older mate as being more patient and caring.
