Motivation Tips

Attitudes and Their Effects on Aptitude
By:Marco Angioni II

Aptitude is defined as "capability; ability; innate or acquired capacity for something; talent." Another definition for aptitude is "readiness or quickness in learning; intelligence." Now that you know the definition of aptitude, the question becomes, "how does your attitude affect your aptitude?"

Think about this question in the following way; have you ever had a day when you feel completely unmotivated. You know, those days when nothing goes right, clouds form in the sky, your clothes are wrinkled, your hair does not want to cooperate, and you are late for work. These circumstances will (unless you are the most chipper person in the world) have a negative effect on your attitude. When this occurs, you feel like every task is difficult, boring, and long. The day drags along at a snails pace and when you finally get home, you hide your face in your pillow and hope you can fall asleep quickly while praying that you never experience another day like this in your life.

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the days when everything goes right. The sun is shining, birds are chirping, work is easy, and you come home to a great night of relaxation. On these days you feel like you can conquer the world. You notice that you get more done and that you produce better work quality.

Both of these examples show how attitude affects your aptitude. On "bad days" you feel helpless, unintelligent, and burdened. On "good days" you feel motivated, powerful, and alert. Thus, the goal is to have more "good days" than "bad days." Therefore, the question becomes, "how do you have more good days than bad days?"

Your day starts in your mind. Your mind is very powerful and will dictate your attitude. If you wake up feeling depressed, rushed, and/or tired, your attitude will reflect this. If you wake up refreshed, excited, and motivated, you attitude will also reflect this. If you believe that you are going to have a good day, you will.

Stay motivated throughout the day by remembering your goals and by picturing your version of success. Stay positive and powerful. By maintaining your positive, powerful, and motivated attitude, you aptitude will increase and you will be able to conquer the world! Well, maybe not conquer the world, but you will be one step closer to achieving your version of success.
