In the process of your life there will be many times where things don’t go the way you have planned them. Most likely you have already experienced plenty of times like these. What’s important about these times is not to dwell on the failure or disappointment but to learn from it and look for your next opportunity.

Opportunities are all around you but it’s hard to see them if you are focusing on mistakes, failures, or disappointments. Alexander Graham Bell summed it up nicely when he said, ‘When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.’

Sometimes the doors that open for you will not look like the ones that you want. You may expect things to happen a certain way and be so focused on your own preconceived idea of the way it should be that you miss out on some of the greatest opportunities possible.

Granted, it’s hard to see something that you have worked so hard for fall apart. It’s easy to dwell on the regrets, the things that should have been done differently. But to move on and have success in any area of your life, you have to be able to look around you and see what other opportunities have presented themselves.

So, the next time you feel like a door has closed, don’t just stare at it and think about all the things that could have been. Start to look around you for the door that has opened and begin to see all the things that could be.
