By:Anthony D Carter

Pick a goal that matters greatly to you. The stronger your desire for the goal the sharper your focus will be. If your goal matters a great deal to you then you will work with intensity to hit it. It helps to tie your goal to a dream that you want to come true. Your goal should also tie in to other goals. So often we have small goals that we must hit before we hit our main goal. Make your goal a goal within a bigger goal. Then the importance of that goal as it relates to the accomplishment of your bigger goal will help to keep you on track. Also the progressive achievement of your goals should lead to your obtaining a dream. When your desire for that dream is strong then you will be compelled to stay on track.

Establish a time-line. Set date for completion. A date gives you a sense of urgency towards the accomplishment of your goal. Without a date your are susceptible to procrastination and distraction. With a date in mind you are able to make sound plans which keep you focused on the task at hand.

Make a plan. Planning creates a track for you to follow. When you make plans you establish a process for hitting your goals. When you are working a plan you are more engaged. Without a plan you are much more likely to get sidetracked. It is easier to stay on track to hit your goals when you follow a step by step plan.

Focus. You must discipline yourself to focus on your goals, especially in the beginning. It may prove difficult getting into a good routine when you first start going after your goal. However, once you get dialed in you should be able to discern the proper response to normal everyday choices. You can ask yourself this simple question: Will this action bring me closer to my goal or will it push me further away from it?

Answering the previous question when you are presented with options will crystallize your focus and streamline your decision making process. With an solid method of making decisions you free your mind of confusion. You are better able to focus on solutions rather than getting burdened down with distractions.
