Seven Ways to Boost Our Energy Levels at Work
By:Mark Medley

There are actually seven things that may even wear down your energy levels at work, and identifying these could be a way to build-up your energy levels, allowing you to have a more balanced home- work life:

1. Clutter

A cluttered workplace signals disorder, even if we may not have the time to clear away all the clutter that can signify a busy workplace. This affects the way we think, when we work and causes anxiety- An anxiety that may run our energy levels down. Clearing the clutter, may lower our anxiety levels- and improve our energy levels.

2. Boredom

Boredom tires people. Often mundane tasks wear down active and intelligent people, which naturally lead us to feel tired. We are effectively often result driven, and boredom kills our instincts to get things done. Mentally once we become bored, we become more tired. Taking a quick break may kill the boredom, or rewarding ourselves with a treat could help us work through the boredom.

3. A Toxic Indoor Environment

Closed in offices and workplaces contain a variety of energy zapping toxics. This leads to tiredness. Closed windows with an air conditioner running all day, creates a very lethargic environment, so does the mixture and smell of various cleaning materials used in our workplaces. Opening windows, having more plants around our workplace and cutting down on the use of chemicals could be an answer.

4. Poor Eating Habits

Eating too much at one time drains our energy, rather than creates new energy. Snacking may be the answer. This gives us tiny energy boosters throughout the day, rather than one energy overload, once a day.

5. Email/ Facebook Addiction

Continually returning to checking your email or facebook during working hours actually confuses our brain, and leads to an energy drain. In our computer dependent World, this may sound ridiculous- but in order to multi-task our brains need to be focused, and by returning to checking an email or our facebooks. This often distracts and tires our brains.

6. A Negative Working Environment

When our colleagues or superiors are extra critical or even negative, this can create a very negative and draining working environment- one which may even decrease efficiency, rather than increase it. Criticism may be needed in the workplace, but it also has to be balanced by praise- Expressing criticism in a positive way, rather than being constantly negative, creates an energy boost rather than a drain.

7. Holding Grudges

Resentment naturally continues to drain our energy. But in today's highly competitive working environments, resentments could run high. Forgiving and forgetting may redirect that lost energy, and create a more efficient working environment. One way to do this is to admit to ourselves, we are not perfect, and recognize that others around us all are imperfect in their own unique ways.

As we approach the next decade of this very uncertain century, the need to multi -task and balance our work- home life need to be considered. One way of doing this is by beating the extra demands we face at work, with positive energy boosting techniques which could help us leave the workplace, without feeling exhausted and mentally drained.
