Top 10 ways to stay positive, or encourage colleagues who own their own service business

This is an expanded version to a question that was asked on LinkedIn. (What's the best way to stay positive, or encourage colleagues who own their own service?) This is a very common question and more people need to have some answers. I’m not convinced there is one “best way”. Following are my
Top 10 ways.

1. Read a few pages of a good book daily. Ongoing personal development is critical to your success.

2. Don't dwell on the negatives and encourage others to do the same. “Whatever is true, whatever of noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.”

3. Remind yourself and others the difference between failing and being a failure. While you may be failing in some areas of life, you are succeeding in others. Strive for self-improvement, not perfections.

4. Stay focused and use your time wisely. Make the main things, the main things. Don’t allow distractions to keep you from doing the high priority activities.

5. Surround yourself with positive people and be the positive person for others. (They say you become the sum total of your 5 closest friends so be wise and careful who you allow into your close centre of influence).

6. Develop a support network. Realize you are not alone and some of the people you think are doing great are having challenges also. Having a few people you know you can call when you are having a bad day helps tremendously.

7. Remember, people are rejecting your services because of their own money problems or don't see the value in your service, they are not rejecting you personally. Remember, it is a "numbers game"

8. Work on not letting a sale or lack of sale affect your mood and self-worth. Ask yourself; “did I do the proper activity? Did I do my best?

9. Don't be afraid to let others know what you do and ask for referrals. Ask people to help you, most people want to help.

10. Find a good counselor that you are comfortable talking with. (Most major medical insurance policies cover the services of a counselor)
