3 Key Tips on How to Make Changes in Your Life
By:Kat Smith Starlove

We have all heard the saying that “one thing in life is constant and that is change.” However, even though we know this fact about life it is very difficult for many people to face and make changes in their lives. Many times we will even cling to a bad situation even though we know we would be better off doing something else but can’t find the courage to make a change. I’m talking about a change in your life such as your relationships, jobs, and living conditions, anything that you cling to even though you know a change would probably be the best thing to happen to you. And, that’s the stickler, the term “the best thing to happen to you”, the idea that it’s ok if change happens but we don’t want to cause change to happen. We feel disempowered when we can’t make choices . In order to empower ourselves to make changes in our lives we need to step out of our comfort zones, get rid of the victim mentality, trust ourselves and understand what the true meaning is in our lives.

1. In order to become empowered to make changes in our life we first have to be able to step out of our comfort zone. The best way to do this is to start by tiny steps. Have you worn your hair the same way for 20 years? Maybe you might want to try a new hairstyle. Have you talked about going back to school to get that degree? Try taking one class, even if it’s a fun one like gardening or photography, just to try the idea out. Try to step outside of your world and make very small changes at first. You might find that they are so fun you will try bigger changes.

2. Stop being the victim in your life. Start taking responsibility for every part of your life. The sooner you realize you are the captain of your ship, the sooner you will become empowered to make healthy changes to your life. There are no exceptions to this.

3. Learn to trust yourself. Have confidence in the good choices you are able to make. If you cannot trust yourself you will never be able to guide your life. Understand that you are a capable person and can make the right choices. It doesn’t hurt to go with your inner feelings as a guide. Trust those intuitions.

Realize that every one of us has self doubt at times in our lives. But to really get the good things out of life we must empower ourselves by being adventurous, taking responsibility for our actions and trusting our judgment.
