Motivation Tips

5 Techniques to Easily Demotivate Yourself
By:Edwin V. Tan

Are you suffering from immense motivation or soaring achievement? Well, I have some good news for you! You can stop this pain right now if you want to. How? By demotivating yourself!

And I'll show you the following ways to easily demotivate yourself whenever you are attacked by ambition, inspiration, energy or enthusiasm. When you do these, I can assure you, you'll soon be right back in front of your TV watching old movies or in your room reading gossip magazines or down a tavern drinking beer.

1. Wallow in Self-Pity

Spending a lot of time feeling sorry for yourself is the number one demotivator. Any feelings of hope or enthusiasm will be dashed right there and then. So if you don't want this to happen you must be aware of this feeling.

Wallowing in self-pity will only remind yourself of all the reasons why you're not good enough, you're not smart enough, you're not worthy, and why nobody likes you.

These negative thoughts will only give hope and motivation no place to grow.

You will start identifying yourself as a victim. People who have wronged you and the feelings of anger, resentment, unfairness and even rage will only make you fell all the more helpless and pitiful.

2. Always Look For Reasons Why Not

Always keep with you a handy repertoire of excuses so you should not make the mistake of putting the plan into action in case some inspiring ideas pop into your mind.

Never run out thoughts like:
· Who am I to try something like that?
· My friends will only laugh at me.
· I don't have the talent to do that.
· It's time consuming.
· That's not my cup of tea...
· I'll only disappoint myself.
· I have no money.

If you really think about it, these negative thoughts and feelings only serve to keep you from ever doing what you really want to do. Any kind of "Can't", "Couldn't", "Won't", Wouldn't" thoughts are sure-fire way to freeze you from ever starting.

3. Keep Away From Goal Oriented Activities

The surest way to never achieving anything is by never setting a goal. Pretty obvious right? But to some it's not especially if they want to demotivate themselves.

So refuse any promotion, reject any project, and avoid giving any value to worthwhile activities.

Don't do anything that will enlarge your concept of what's possible. Your forte should be to shrink your world instead of expanding it.

In short, preserve, at all costs, your status quo as it is. This feels safer than going out of your comfort zone because this opens the door to excitement, hope, enthusiasm and other dangerous emotions.

4. Criticize High Achievers

This one is closely related to number 5. Be always on the lookout for ways to condemn the successes and achievements of others. Don't give them reason to believe that they are really that good. It will only make them feel more confident and successful.

If a friend, an acquaintance or your neighbor is doing something commendable or buys a new car and you cannot keep up with the "Joneses", then you better find a way fast to criticize or else they'll create more successes. This is the only way you can soothe your envious feelings.

Here are some examples that you can do or say:

· It's good to have these material things or achievements, but what a pity because you don't have a child (this one my wife and I hear a lot be cause we don't have a child)
· Yes, she's doing great... but her husband and son
· That's a good thing to do but I wonder what he's up to
· They may be rich but they are not happy
· I don't think he's sincere when he smiles
· These people are so greedy they don't have time to help others

This negativity will only make those things seem true even if they are not. Whether you say it aloud or not doesn't make any difference. The effect will still be the same. It will put a stop to any desire that you have to better yourself because you are focusing on the negative side of things.

Since this is what you really want in the first place anyway, then rest assured that you will remain imprisoned within your walls of limitation.

5. Associate with Low Achievers

Soak up the mindset, energy, and attitudes of low-achievers by spending time with them. And do your best to stay away from the high-achievers.

You can identify low achievers by listening to phrases like:
· In order to succeed like that you have to be ruthless
· As long as we're happy, it's okay to be poor
· Rich are crooked and corrupt
· I'd rather stay the same than try to be somebody I'm not
· I'm just not cut out to be rich or successful
· We were not born smart, intelligent, rich or successful
· I have no time, energy and money to do that

There's no easy way to demotivate yourself than by spending all your available time with people who think like this.

So these are the top five ways to keep yourself down in the dumps where you can spend all your energies to misery and despair.

You can easily apply these techniques whenever your friends or neighbors or officemates stand out from the crowd and start creating a buzz of their successes and achievements.

In others words, don't ever give them the chance to eventually fulfill their dreams and thus live a happy and satisfied life. Otherwise, where would your life be?
