Affirmations Versus Confidence
By:Karthik Rao

We all lead life. We have heard people say - 'Confidence is important to succeed in life.' But is it really only confidence that helps us in our work? Actually we may be confused between the word 'confidence' and 'affirmation'.

Let us take an example,

"I am healthy".

This shows more of an affirmation than confidence. Affirmation may be defined as the total acceptance of a particular human characteristic/ property by our own mind. In other words, affirmations are the things we have said to ourselves in our subconscious mind. It may be positive or it may be negative.

Consider that a person says,

"I can never study this subject".

Such kind of negative affirmations makes a person to lead such troubled life.

Affirmations have great influence in our day to day life and to our life as a whole. Whatever we say or affirm to ourselves, we actually become like that.

Ways to perform intentional affirmations:
1. Affirming by writing
2. Affirming by speaking
3. Affirming by meditation

Affirmations by writing:

Take a sheet of paper and write all the things you want to affirm. Readloudly as if you were actually experiencing them. Do this daily until you achieve things that you affirmed. If necessary, repeat this 10 times or 20 times until you start to feel that you are what you affirm.

Affirmations by repeatedly speaking:

Say to yourself repeatedly as to what you want to affirm. Repeat it daily until you achieve it. Patience is very important for getting the results. You must patiently wait until you achieve what you affirmed.

Repeatedly speak positive affirmations like:
"I am very good in studies".

"I am joyful at work".

Such statements are affirmations.

Affirmations by meditation:

Go to a quiet and peaceful place where you feel you will get distracted by the surrounding environment. Sit and think that you are what you affirmed. Affirm yourself hundred times each day. Spend at least 5 minutes per day doing this. You will soon notice the change.
