Five Common Obstacles Between You and Your Dreams
By:Dr. Gary S. Goodman

Here are five of the most common obstacles to realizing your dreams:

(1) You don't have any. This sounds funny, but I'm earnestly serious. There have been times in my life, actually most of my life, when I have been driven by challenging goals. I didn't have to awaken and decide what I wanted. I knew exactly what I was after, and I was on a path to achievement. Obstacles came and went, but I steered myself steadfastly toward my dreams, and I made them come true. The bad news is that I stopped too long to smell the roses, savoring my "wins" too much. Before long, I was sitting on my laurels, waiting for my next inspiration. Don't do that to yourself. Always be working on something challenging and rewarding, if only as a good time management technique.

(2) Your dreams aren't YOUR dreams. They belong to someone else, who has attached them to your ship like so many extra barnacles. Of course you'll feel ambivalent about these grafted wishes, questioning their value. Mom and dad and your mates may adore these goals, but that's because they created them, for you. Scrape them off, and you'll be sailing smoothly.

(3) Your dreams are yesterday's dreams, rehashed. In a tough economy lot of folks are obsessing about paying the bills, when that may have been a challenge they left long ago, back in their first days of emancipation from parents. Just getting by, simply making ends meet isn't a dream. It's grueling. Think bigger and better!

(4) You don't think you deserve to have dreams. Baloney! Self-downing, feeling you don't deserve success, are basic self-esteem problems that you need to fix. Remember the adage: The sun shines on a new dog each day! Be that dog!

(5) You're living in a dream now but you simply won't let yourself enjoy it, fully. You think you should be struggling, doing something else, that good fortune came too easily to you. Poppycock!

If anyone deserves the great things in life, it's you. Go get them, if you don't have them.

If you do, appreciate them to the max!
