Respect Yourself By Not Allowing People Treat You Like a Doormat
By:Larry Icabandi Nabiong

Every one of us deserves respect.

Sans it, we feel unworthy. And when this feeling reaches the very core of our being, dangers of multiple dimension sets in. Yes, as learned person, you need to assess your value as a person. Do you know that you enjoy living as one sans guilt of doing disrespect to others around you? Or worse, you have been used to it for so long a time and now thinking that it is okay to disrespect people.

How many times have you experienced dealing with disrespectful persons? Did you observe respect then? Or just like them, you also observed inappropriate behaviors like back stabbing, maligning their reputations, etc.?

When this happens, our value becomes questionable. All our manners are going down the drain, and what is left is our pride and self-importance which both abhorring. With this kind of thinking and attitude towards others, we are in for trouble.

Nobody deserves any kind of disrespect. Even the unborn fetus deserves it; animals deserve respect also. So abhorring that despite our desire to become good and nice to every one, we are still inutile in being completely respectful ones. Human nature, some will say, but as educated persons we know better. And should flaunt our respectful nature to everyone sans conditions.

Yes, it is like unconditional love. Love me without any limiting definitions. Love me for what I am; no ifs or buts. Respecting people despite their flaws or what, needs real education. Golden rule: do not do unto others what you do not want them do unto you. What you do to others are just reflections of what is inside you. Make sure your conscience is still intact and you know what is right and wrong. Always avoiding doing the wrong things and doing the right things instead, for your own good and others as well, is what we need to do.

If you want to be respected, show respect. As simple as that.
