Lessons & Classroom Games for Teachers
ESL Game
Teaching Prepositions
This game worked well in my classes especially when I applied it as a warmer up. I wanted to share it with my friends who are doing their best teaching ESL overseas. You can apply it at any level and to both large and small size classes as well.
Type of activity: Team work
Function practiced : Giving directions
Exponent : Competitive abilities
Instructions:
Teacher will call each team member to the board. All students will be given the same allotted time to draw a picture of what they 've been instructed. They will finish at the same time and the team member who's drawn completely as instructed will get more points.
Team members take turn to come and draw pictures.
When all teams are finished you will count the points. The team which has got more points will be the winner.
Example: There is a park in the corner of a small city behind an old buliding.
In the park there is an oak in the middle and you can see four benches on both sides of the park.
Flowers at the gate of the park give a fascinating view to the park. Especially, the statue for the heroes near the gate makes it different than the other parks.....
The object of this game is to practise prepositions and learn to use them.
it's preferrable to give hints in case students find it difficult.
I wish you prosperous work.
Cheers,
Ali
