Classroom Games - Statues & Squiggles
By:Lucas Kent

Statues

This is a fun game to give your students a break and some exercise.

1) Have the students stand up and push their chairs in so they have lots of room to move around.

2) Choose a scenario which they must act out (i.e. skiing down a steep hill, hitting a game winning homerun or catching a huge swordfish.)

3) Give the students 10-15 seconds to act out the scene, then say freeze.

4) The students should become statues and hold their poses.

5) I usually point out some of the best statues.

6) To make it competitive, have the best statues from each side of the room compete in a rock, paper, scissors game for a point.

Use your imagination and this game will help your class improve their drama skills and get their heart rates up.

Squiggles

This is a fun game to give your students a break.

1) Divide the board into 4 different sections.

2) Choose one student to be the Squiggler.

3) The Squiggler will come to the board and draw some squiggles in each section on the board.

4) The Squiggler should then leave the room and wait in the hallway.

5) Choose four students to come to the board to draw.

6) Give students 30-60 seconds to draw a picture with the squiggles in their section of the board.

7) Have the drawers sit down and bring the Squiggler back into the room.

8) Give the Squiggler 10 seconds to choose their favourite drawing.

9) The student's drawing that is chosen becomes the next Squiggler.

If you want to get more students involved in the game create more sections on the board to allow for more drawers.
